Queen played at the sixth form college I went to.

But the year before (1973) :(

Apparently they tried to book them again, but the price had gone up a tad :D

That's pretty amazing!

Mind you, I started work in 1971 as an apprentice on the princely sum of £3.60 per week (40 hrs of hard slog actually) and from what I remember the qualified guys were on about £10 or so per week. Being in a 'band' was a nice little earner!

I should have listened to my music teacher and choir master.

£450 in 69 is the equivalent of £6223 in today's money, but even so,you'll not get any chart act to appear for £6k. That's wedding band territory.

In those days it cost a band money to tour and they coined it on the record sales, now recorded music has little value and the show is where the money is.

Let's put this into perspective.
Average house price for 1969 is @ £3800, so FM were playing for 1/8 of a house a time, so @£40k in today's money.............still vfm if you're the promoter!

Saw quite a few on that list, 'back in the day'. TYA, Tull, Small Faces etc. Floyd were on the Uni circuit back then (Ummagumma era...so still quite a lot of kit :D ). Was supposed to see Chickenshack at the local Teachers Training College but their van broke down. They were as good as their word though and turned up on another date, tickets still valid. When I moved to that London, Stan Webb was a regular in one of the local pubs.

Tickets were cheap as chips too.

Myself and a Friend wanted to hire John Renbourne for a concert at Brum Town Hall, the hall was £80 and John was £60.....we couldn't raise the funds...about '68 as oi remember.
