Tool Storage Porn!!!
After putting it off for ages, I finally invested in one of these the other day, and it turned up today...
https://www.sgs-engineering.com/sgs-stc ... er-cabinet
It's a beast for sure!!!
Ironically, since I ordered it the other day, the price has gone up by 15% too... I spent ages trying to find a discount code, but in the end gave up, reasoning that my need for it was more important than saving 5 or 10% overall... Turns out if I'd procrastinated any longer, it would have cost me another 15%!
Anyway... Hopefully finishing work reasonably early tomorrow so I can start reorganising my garage to fit it in and filling it with my tools, if not then it'll be eating into my Saturday no doubt!
My biggest worry is that it still won't fit all of my tools, and I'll need to add some more storage still!
Show me your tool storage solutions... When I had my bike shop, I preferred to have it all on a shadow board on the wall, but then they were all being used every day and by 2 or 3 different people, so it made sense. These days they get used more sporadically, and keeping my garage tidy is more important.

Halfords stuff for me, whenever my need and a discount coincide, just pick up another cabinet;

So it turns out Wera stuff comes with this anyway I was asking the guys at work how we got all the drawers such a perfect fit and so neatly labelled. IME I've had Shadowfoam CNCd out, but we just ticked the "send in Shadowfoam" box when we bought all the tools. Didn't even know that was an option.

Not in the immediate future, that's for sure... Firstly I need to see if all my tools will fit in it, organised or not!Rockburner wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2024 10:51 pm Jealous jealous jealous.

My garage needs a severe sort out first, once that's fully done, no doubt I will go through my tool collection and streamline it a bit and then look at the possibility of shadow foaming it maybe...

I would post mine, but I don't want to ruin your happiness. However, I will add that my main box is a 41in, not a 46in like yours... but with the recent addition of a 48in Yukon I now have about 32 linear feet of toolboxes

Assuming the bottom of the stack is closed in* to prevent critters from gaining access:
Look into drilling a hole in the back to pass wiring through to power a terrarium heat pad. Put the pad between large ceramic tiles under the larger bottom drawer. Fiddle with the thermostat once the stack is toasty & you'll never have to deal with rust attacking your tools ever again.
*Some aren't, you can touch the bottom of the bottom drawer by reaching under the stack.

Have to say: I tend to keep all the batteries for my power tools in the house. (having had the workshop broken into, I'm a little more cautious these days).

Super low crime area here, I went into town last week and left every window and patio door open for an hour with not a thought of the house being turned over.Rockburner wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2024 11:12 am

That said the Sthil batteries are in there to keep them separate from the tools in the shed to make nicking them less attractive
