Insurance Question.
To help a pal, I've initially offered to drive his race van and caravan from Leeds over to northern Spain.
But I have a Spanish licence.
That's where the grey areas start.
I'm pretty sure that I can't drive a UK car here, but not sure about in the UK.
And could I be added to the van insurance?
TIA

Re: Insurance Question.
Tricky. I can and do drive both UK and French registered vehicles in France, but I am directly insured for both (all) of them. Where is your mate's van/caravan registered and insured?

Re: Insurance Question.
Will be watching this cos I want to try and borrow a car when I head to the uk for a wedding in a few weeks! Can’t afford to hire one and where I need to go will be a nightmare by public transport

Re: Insurance Question.
I've added mates to my (UK-registered) van's insurance for when we're driving to/from France and all has been OK. I've been stopped on routine checks, shown my docs and all has been in order. As long as you're covered on the insurance and all the paperwork is kosher I don't see a problem. But I'm not sure how the Spanish rozzers would see it, you'd know better about that.

Aha. Seems that my licence is valid in UK. I was confused coz Penny couldn't drive a car she owned.
Now just need insurance

Re: Insurance Question.
As long as it's in date and correct category, you're fine.
I've hired cars all over the world (only moment was in Thailand) without an issue.
Euro licenses accepted in UK, just make sure your 'mate' insures you as a named driver and that you have a letter from them stating you have permission to drive it.

Re: Insurance Question.
The Kombi is in wifey's name. I was already on the UK insurance, when I got my Spanish license she notified the insurance company, they said "not a problem". I was driving the van around Spain which I think was OK, it's not my van and I'm insured to drive it even though it had UK plates. It's on Spanish plates now and wifey also has a Spanish license.
