Right, I want a back protector for my jacket.
Do I go for a over the shoulder and round the waist job or one that slides into my jacket. It’s a Dainese super speed 3,

A few thoughts:
* An over the shoulder and round the waist job will be safer.
* A slip in the jacket job will be slightly more convenient.
* The Pro Armour one only protects the Central Back (not ideal). While I’m uncertain if the Manis is certified as a Full Back protector, I’d pick Forcefield or Knox over Dainese anyway.
* I’ve used both Forcefield and Dainese back protectors, and the Forcefield was better: comfier, not a one-crash protector, and it worked in a wider temperature range.
* I’ve not tried it, but Knox’s MicroLock back protector gets rave reviews: https://www.planet-knox.com/product/mic ... protector/

If it was me, I’d get the Knox MicroLock one.

I imagine it’ll fit in a onesie. But I’d check that any bike trousers have enough room for the Knox to fit in. Otherwise, you’ll be on the famous Knox diet

What do you mean trousers??? I either ride in jeans and leather jacket or a full 1 Piece, if it’s hammering it down I’ll wear textiles

I've got a level 2 Oxford strap on and a d3o in my Furygan pocket. Of the 2 the strap on covers more but its a PITA on a day out carrying it around so until recently I've been using the d3o exclusively. More comfortable and no need to carry it. My new Oxford Mondial though has a really small back protector pocket so I've gone back to the strap on with that jacket. I defo prefer the d3o.

Ah, I mean that your jeans and textile trousers need to have enough wiggle room in the waist for a (standalone) back protector to fit in. One advantage of a strap-on ( ) is that it covers your lower spine, below the bottom of your jacket. Presuming you zip together your jacket and pants, then the lower end of the back protector fits inside your trousers.

What with free returns from places like Sportsbikeshop, you could always buy both and return the one you prefer less?

I use a Knox over the shoulder& round the waist number. Had it for years and wear it on road and track. I don’t even notice it now and even when I did start wearing it, it wasn’t something that was distracting or uncomfortable. Offers much more protection than the ones that slip into a pocket in the leathers.

So I ordered the Knox and the Dainese Pro-Armour Back Protector and after sitting around in them with and with out the jacket on I decided on the Dainese. Just felt bette and comfortable. Rode for the first time today with it. Feels great like it’s not there.
The Knox was just a little thicker and shorted and did’t sot as well for me.
