Thinnest heated grips...? Anyone have any help/advice...?
Quite a specific question I know... But does anybody have any idea on who does the thinnest motorcycle heated grips?
Obviously, due to the nature of having a heating element within the grip as well, no heated grip is ever going to be as thin as something like a Renthal grip, I understand that. But some are eminently thicker than others. The ones on my KTM 1290SA are specific to KTM (integrated throttle tube in the RH grip) so can't be used on any other bike, but feel pretty nice, not too thick, around 32mm I believe. The ones on my current Suzuki GSX-S1000F are older generation Oxford Hotgrips (with separate controller) and come in around 35mm and are too thick for me.
So anybody able to help here...?
I spoke with Oxford, they say their latest Hotgrip Pro grips (the £200 ones with integrated control button) are 33.5mm which is more like it, but ideally I'd like thinner still.
Most seem to be about 35mm or so.
The Suzuki OEM ones (I'm buying a new Suzuki incidentally) seem relatively thin, but they're some daft price, over £400... You also can't tell which mode you're in with them.
Heat wise, it's rare I'll run them on hottest setting anyway so don't need the hottest grips, just the thinnest ones with the best feel.
Any ideas...?

I had some R&G ones on my old Varadero that were very similar to normal grip thickness, however...
They were a bit low rent, the controller was pretty basic and the rubber was very hard.
They were the warmest grips I'd ever had tho' way warmer than any of the Oxfords I've used.
Like these ones...

Think I paid £25 for them (but that was almost 10 years ago).

I've Oxfords on the zed,I just measured them and they read 34mm or slightly less depending on where you measure.
There's 20k miles of wear to be factored into that. I don't know what they were new,but they never felt bigger than stock.

Diesel gloves from any forecourt.
Considerably cheaper and reliable.

Cheers, had heard they're pretty low profile (33mm iirc) and capable of delivering nuclear levels of heat. Do look a bit low rent though (not the end of the world). But they are cheap... Under £40 in some places!KungFooBob wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 8:34 pm I had some R&G ones on my old Varadero that were very similar to normal grip thickness, however...

From a technical point, I can't fault your answer... However I am not going the Heath Robinson approach that heats the handlebar far more than it heats my hands!A_morti wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 10:17 pm I know this one!

Ask me another.
Walking is cheaper and more reliable than riding a motorbike too... I really don't think you get the point!Sadlonelygit wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 9:25 pm Diesel gloves from any forecourt.

I was gonna say heated gloves too. I've not got them but have a few mates with them who say they work better as heat the whole hand rather than just the palm.
I've considered heated grips on my GSXS but don't wanna faff about filing off the ridges on the throttle tube.

It was, and they're truly superb, RST Paragons, I've now got heated grips and heated gloves, the gloves keep your hands warmer, but the grips are good because you can use thinner summer gloves in colder weather.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Fri Jan 26, 2024 9:15 am Was it Cheesy who got some heated gloves and raved about them?

Re: Thinnest heated grips...? Anyone have any help/advice...?
Cheers
I managed to get along to Sportsbikeshop today and compare the Oxford Hotgrips Pro versions... The Sport seem the thinnest, very little in it but they seem like they will be thin enough for me at least.
Got one... It's brilliant!
Got heated seat too on the KTM...
I am very, very, very fussy about gloves... As in I own about 8 pairs of the things, and only have 2 possibly 3 I'll happily wear. I have been known to go into a shop with maybe 50 different styles of glove on display, try pretty much all of them on, and still not find anything I liked the feel of!Supermofo wrote: ↑Fri Jan 26, 2024 8:15 am I was gonna say heated gloves too. All of the heated gloves I've seen are far too thick and lacking feel for my tastes. I appreciate that heated gloves are a more efficient way to heat your hands, but despite having mild Raynaud's I haven't found conditions I'd ride in yet (if there's a chance of ice, I ain't riding, but anything about 5c up basically) that I haven't coped with my favourite winter gloves combined with decent heated grips... I must say that handguards make a big difference too, keeping the wind chill off the back of my hands.
Filing the ridges off the throttle tube is a 5min job... I've fitted heated grips on many bikes now, it really isn't a big deal mate. Besides, a spare throttle tube is about £20 if you ever need to replace it...

Love my heated waidtcoat-even feels warm without plugging it in.
Had heated gloves (Klein?). Absolutely hated then, plugging the waterproof lead to the glove was a real faff. And the gloves were far to thick for nice throttle control, so only wore them a few times. I may have sold them to someone here
Heat your core, and your extremities stay warmer

Sure you're not rubbing it to build up static electricity?
