New Triumph Daytona 660

Post by tricol »

Well, it is finally revealed.

95hp, 12.5k redline. Looks good to me!

Let the RTTL bashing commence

Why have they video'd it in low light, are they trying to hide something?
I guess the promo was on embargo until mid day today,I've just noticed on my YT the usual suspects are uploading the same video & commentating on the bike.

I just watched TMF's YT upload & he reckoned that they're competing against the R7,GSX8 & CB650R so it's not as focused as something like a ZX6.

Looking at the specs, the first thing that leapt out at me was the wet weight (201kgs) and power (95hp) compared to an MT-09 (or derivatives) with wet weight of 189kg and power of 119bhp. OK, so there is a 230 cc difference, and a not inconsiderable cost difference of £1500, but a 660cc triple that weighs more than an 890cc triple? Does a 3/4 fairing and bracketry weigh 12 kg?

Looks like a non-specific mid-spec Honda from 15 years ago.

First thing that leapt out at me are the claimed figures are pretty much the same as a 1998 Fazer 600

The modern equivalent of a diversion 600 or as above the fazer 600 and probably just as good as transport. Not aimed at us oldies tbh :)

Is that was the 660 Trident was meant to be?

The diversion came in faired and unfaired I think, if you want a sports 600 you can buy a zx6r. This new triumph isnt a sports 600 it's a commuter bike or first big bike, shame they've called it a daytona

Seems to be the way of things. The new R7 is a commuter/first big bike, I'm sure if it had been 600 they'd have probably called it an R6 (and the actual R6 the R6R or something). But yeah it's a new Fazer, Divvy etc rather than a supersports. Seems a bit sad though that in 26 years we've gone from a 200kg/95bhp 600 to a 200kg/95bhp 660. I'm sure it rides nicer, has gadgets and is more fuel efficient but none of that is sexy.

I associate the Daytona name with a Supersport bike & this doesn't appear to be a Supersport bike, more a Sport tourer, maybe they should have called it a Sprint or something.

We can still buy a proper supersports 600 with 125/130hp and 195kg though :)

Yes and that's great. Personally I like SS 600s great bikes. If I was 26 rather than 46 I'd much rather have a ZX6 than an R7.

It was premiered in Los Angeles yesterday (Tue 17th) as part of the Triumph US tour.

So presumably the wraps came off later afternoon here - time difference is 8 hours.

Here are a couple of pics (I've colour corrected the second to get rid of the 'deep evening shadow' effect. They appeared on the Triumph Portugal website.
