damn, I nearly bought one of those back in the summer when they were reduced to 50%, but I really couldn't see me riding a HT.

If nothing else, they're almost worth buying to strip for the spares

I almost couldn't resist, I sat squirming looking for excuses to buy one, but I still have an unused Trek X-Calibre 8 that I bought as a family bike because there was a good deal on, but it hasn't turned a wheel, so even though some of the bikes on that site seem like bargains I'd be buying something that wouldn't get used.

I do fancy a new Orange P7s, but again, the one I have now is like brand new because it hardly gets used.

I'm much the same, don't use the one I have enough, but keep meaning to. However, at those prices (bought through my company so less VAT and pre-tax) I figured I'd probably even make a few quid by upgrading. And more like to use a sexy new one, right?

It depends what you class as a bicycle though i guess. £500 in Halfords/Decathlon gets you a commuter level cheap and cheerful thing, think like a super cheap Chinese motorbike.... This is more a Japanese CB500 i guess.

If you want something that isn't going to fall apart from the first time you take it on some dirt... you have to spend a few quid these days

I've been looking at the 'cheaper' end of the leccy bike MTB market, and even second hand it's just not justifiable for me.

A brand spanking quality Japanese 750 is £1500 cheaper.

Whilst i mostly agree with you. Think of that bike as being the Panigale R or the MV Agusta of MTBs, that's not an ordinary toy, that's straight out of the crate capable of winning high level National/International DH races.
