'Spoons

Post by KungFooBob »

It's kind of topical because Tim Martin got knighted in the New Years Honours.

Everyone has been in at least a dozen Wetherspoon's (except Potter, probably). Lets see who has been in the most with the bogs on the same floor as the bar (for a long time I didn't know such a thing existed)?

I'll kick off with two. The Smithy Fold, Glossop and The Fall Well in Liverpool.

The Foxley Hatch, Purley all on one floor iirc (it was a furniture store before I think). Apparently that 'Spoons closed permanently on 3/12/23.

I've been in The Flora Sandes in Thornton Heath  but don't remember where the bogs were (that shut down in 2018).

Don't remember going in any others. Just as well really given my effect.

I was in one in Wales last year and it was vile. Not as vile as Toby Carvery but enough to never want to go back.

Are you saying all the Spoons in MK have the bogs on the same floor as the bar, I find that very difficult to believe!

The one in Stafford (the old Picturehouse) had bogs on the same level as the bar. It's been well over 20 years since I was in there and I am in no hurry to go back. As should be apparent.

So 'not being Potter' is highly suspicious?

Two.

One in London, somewhere in Holborn, it was OK.
And much more recently, one in Helston. It was dire, the staff treated customers like shit*, and I vowed never to go back.

* This is probably the only pub that has EVER required actual payment before they would even start dispensing drinks, let alone serve them. Cf the practice in most bars in France, you order a drink, you get a drink, some time after you get a little chitty on a saucer near your drink. Order another drink, you get the drink and a 2nd chitty. When you have had enough, or the bar is closing, you pay for the chitties.

IIRC the Spoons in Woking (site of a few pre-curry Surrey Massiv drinks) is all on the ground floor. Although iirc the bogs are down the end of an unfeasibly long corridor. (Which also served the kitchens....)

Belfast, Carrick, the one in Victoria Station in London and is there one in Glasgow Central?

Belfast one is a rough hole.

Edit, I've been in all three, the Newtownards one is next door to the magistrates court....

There's one 5 or 6 miles from me. It was a well known paramilitary dive back in the day when I was in it on occasion, but not since it was taken over by Wetherspoons.

Ones in the same building as the ski slopes, upstairs is probably snowy. The other is a big purpose built new building.

I didn't know there was a third!

There was a Lloyd's but that's now a Brew Dog. Bogs upstairs.

I've not bought a drink in either for >10 years but I've used the bogs in one cause it's right next to where they start the Rocket 5K race
