Well, it was a bit tempting...£2300 - pricey for a bike thats not been run since 2009, but previous threw in an oil & filters change and a new battery, and it's inly done 13k.
So, here's the new addition to the stable. Got it running okay but exup valve needs unseizing and definitely new tyres and chain & sprockets.

A bit of tlc required but it’ll be worth it, I’ve had 3 of them, brings back so many memories.
Last time I rode one was back in 2019, I mate had his race one on a track day and I did a session on it, they were mental back in the day but compared to bikes of today it felt so slow, I had just jumped from the 1299 which made it feel even more tame, still plenty fun though.

I've owned 5 I think. They were all, without doubt, bloody brilliant

If you rode the oldest and newest back to back, do you think you'd notice a big difference?

All 5 of them were that model. I had 3 of the later underseat exhaust type 2005-6, there were massively different and way different in power/delivery as fuel injection and 30bhp more.
I preferred the looks of the later, but preferred riding the blue type above

Over the years I got chance to ride previous GSXR1000 models and all were less impressive.
Until I bought my 2019 one. It took a while till I liked it better than the 2013 one.
But when i got it on track, wow. It all made sense then

I had a 1998 R1 in 2000, it was feckin mental, the best way to ride it was like a big MX bike and accelerate hard to stop the front end getting lively on bumpy roads.

Crikey, I remember those days, an indicated 170mph on the bypass.
You're obviously a young, fearless and flexible chap
I see that now and my back starts hurting
Now you know me for exactly the worn out dastardly bastard I am - hardly a yooffull bendy doll these dats

Regarding how powerful/lively they are, I honestly don't know because I've never had one before. I've two other bikes on the road atm. One is a 93 exup - the grandad of the r1. It's like John Wayne - packs a hell of a punch but predictable and carrying too much weight. The other bike is the ducati 1198s - far more power, lighter and nimble - more like a crack whore with a beretta.
I'm hoping this will be somewhere in the middle, ideally suited for both trackday duties and the annual lunacy that is the longest day challenge. I'll find out this coming year because I'm doing both.

Naturally it's being a bastard and not wanting to start atm - been chewing my way through cut out switches for clutch, sidestand & neutral but no joy so far. Every, and I do mean every, connector block has been cleaned and soaked in contact cleaner but I'm looking at the starter assembly (several relays in one unit) as being the culprit
Many gnash.
