At one point in his career, there was a type of car racing with a 500cc limit. Everyone used the same single cylinder engine.

His both decided they should scale down the head and barrel, and make it 10 cylinder version. V configuration IIRC.They got as far as a first prototype.

Soichiro Honda based his entire company on that premise, particularly in the early years.
