Scooter stolen, now found but damaged. What happens next?
Scooter stolen, now found but damaged. What happens next?
My scooter was stolen from my driveway early hours last week. Reported to Police and Insurance etc. This morning a concerned local Facebooker had posted that there was a dumped bike in the river, round the corner from us. It's my scooter, standing up on the side stand in the mud, tide out and fairing ripped off, top box missing, number plate removed etc. I've notified the local Constabulary via their website, they say they'll be in touch within 5 days. The Insurance company are closed at weekends. I don't want to go and pull it of the mud but would rather do that than have to pay for someone to recover it. Does anyone know what happens next? Will the Insurance company pay for any storage costs if Police recover? To be honest, I'd rather it was never found, it seems even more of an inconvenience now that I know where it is!

It'll probably be written off anyway,so let the insurance deal with it.

I have no idea what happens in these situation (fortunately for me) but commiserations on having it nicked. I don't want to be judgemental but I hope the thieves, and all their ilk, die screaming.

Think I'd be tempted to recover it myself and get it home. Before touching it, take plenty of photos. Alternatively, wait until Monday morning and see what insurance say first.

I'd be tempted to recover it myself (before, as @Dodgy69 says) taking loads of photos. Insurance companies will recover it to a storage location of their own and charge storage fees. These will increase rapidly and is to be avoided by all means.

Thanks everyone, I've managed (with help) to get it of the river and wheel it home. It's been hacked to bits, Police informed and Insurance will also be notified when they get back into work on Monday morning.

The only vaguely similar experience I've had was when I found my stolen car and it had been bashed up a bit and there was drug paraphernalia in it. I felt sort of violated, even though it was only a company car. So I can imagine how you feel.
