Visors?

Post by Yorick »

Fark. Arai visors are suddenly expensive.
Any decent suppliers with reasonable prices?

They've always been stupidly expensive.

I tend to get them chucked in for free when buying a new lid.

I did buy a cheap Chinese copy once, it wasn't terrible, fit was good, but you don't know until something impacts it if it's going to splinter into your eyeballs.

Last I bought 3 years ago was under £30 on Ebay and was good. The Iridium never wore off at all. Gone out of business.

Back in the 90's the Arai ones were £45+ RRP, I hate to think what an proper one costs now.

The Chinese one I bought was a £25 job.

I bought a tinted visor from AliExpress, start of the year I think, mainly out of curiosity.

It was £12 inc. delivery. Fits fine but as mentioned I wonder how good it really is. Maybe I should buy another and shoot it with an air rifle or something.

'bout a ton, when I looked. My lid came with clear, I want/wanted a tinted one too.

As above - they're meant to catch flying rocks :D certainly not something I'd buy eBay or Ali Express. They might be OK, but I kind of like my eyes, yannow?

I also love the fact the visor seals really well on my lid, I wonder how well a fake one would achieve that.

They are expensive, but if looked after, they last the life of the lid.

I probably get longer out of mine because I rarely ride in traffic,or close behind anyone.

Seems to be about £50-90, depending on type:

Just had a look and the black visor for my TourX4 is about 50 quid which hasnt changed much since i first bought one about 10 years ago. I have a couple of race black ones for the TourX that are in good condition. The black one on my Astro R has taken quite a few stone hits over the years but the helmet is of an age i wont bother replacing the black visor

Have you tried phoning that scary sounding man in Ulster, asking for a discount and telling him "My Little Stud Pony from the internet" sent you?

I have Shoei lids. Whenever I need a new visor I take that cost and deduct it from the cost of a new lid and ask myself if I may be better off buying a new one.

I hope to get to the MCN Show at Excel in February as I used to get better deals on lids and visors as they often chuck in a spare visor if you haggle.

Helmet City are worth a look, they've got some reductions on visors at the moment inc Shoei and Arai.

(I used to use their place in Westerham. Strange place, it's a bit like a barn on a farm but they always had a decent range of stuff in stock. Lots of Roof, HJC etc but Arai, Shoei and Schuberth too. I think they have places in Chichester and in Oxford too).

My last four Arai's have come from...

https://gearchangeonline.com/

They've thrown in a free OEM dark visor every time and I've never paid the ticket price, they love a deal, if you want to order online you can even barter in the chat.

I assume they'd deal on visors too if you asked nicely.
