Bleed oil pump
Had to clean the fuel filter (nasty!) on my household oil boiler and now I want to bleed the pump
I was expecting there to be an obvious bleed valve on the side/bottom of it, but this one doesn't seem to have one. (Googling, fecking every other version of a Suntec pump does though).
Any hints?

Re: Bleed oil pump
I'd try the one next the V and if that didn't work then I'd try the one near the P.

Re: Bleed oil pump
I have no idea of the layout, but if there is a union at or near the high point of the oil delivery system, just crack that a fraction and bleed the air out there...?
There is no cloud, just somebody else's computer.

Re: Bleed oil pump
It looks like a peristaltic pump, they don't need bleeding as you just wait until they have pushed all the air out.
I'm probably wrong as I don't remember them ever being used for oil.

Re: Bleed oil pump
Dammit, there's really nothing on it that looks like an obvious place for bleeding. 10 seconds of "ignition" and then it trips off and the dreaded red light goes on.

Re: Bleed oil pump
Should be an air bleed valve on the right hand side, otherwise crack the feed and return pipes and get a bowl underneath.once oil is coming out of one of the pipes (the feed), leave the return loose to act as the bleed.
Btw, be very careful with the sparks on them as the igniters are 20k+ volts, do you a nasty injury, probably quite fatal!

Re: Bleed oil pump
Turns out that the new oil delivery guy turned off the main stop switch last week when he delivered fuel. The usual guy turns it off and turns it back on again later. Doh. :/
But even now fuel is back on, it still won't start. 15 seconds of 'ignition' and it trips off again. Oil does however piss out the hole next to the 'V' if you loosen the adjacent Allen bolt. A steady stream rather than fizzy with air, so I dunno if an airlock is the problem now.
Flooded? Unlikely to be flooded if it was previously being starved? Is it likely to go bang if I keep resetting the trip to try another ignition?

Re: Bleed oil pump
Slacken off the return pipe union, that will bleed the injector body.
Doubt it would go bang, might go wuuuummmphhhhh and get a dirty exhaust for a bit

Re: Bleed oil pump
Oil bleeds when you slacken various unions. But theres no obvious signs of air in the system. And it still doesn't start.
Thanks for all the assistance so far guys, but it looks like I'm now probably reduced to engaging with one of the local artisans.....

Re: Bleed oil pump
Yes its exactly that pictured top right (albeit on my boiler it's orientated 90deg clockwise and the "pressure tube" and "pressure adjustment" are flipped). It even shows the same two-way feed-return filter set-up.
But yeah - nowhere obvious to bleed it - like I say, fuel does bleed, although no noticeable air if you crack various unions - and it will piss out in a lovely stream if you undo the 'P' and 'V' ports.
But it still no likey. So I've begrudgingly requested a visit from the le heating maestro for Thursday. Let's hope it's not too humiliating.

Re: Bleed oil pump
Bet it's installed backwards
Or there's a switch labelled "turn off after 15s" somewhere.

Re: Bleed oil pump
When I had 'issues' with my boiler last year, I was just methodical.
Pulled the jet out, fitted a new one. Bled it from the pressure feed to the jet assembly.
When it started to misbehave again, changed solenoid as a matter of course, then looked at the control relay. Deduced that this was where the problem was, popped the cover off and manually triggered the ignition (with a rubber tube) and we were golden. Bought a new (s/h) relay in blighty and all has been well ever since.
Unless you've fucked around with the mixture settings, or the pump has properly failed, they're incredibly simple and robust.
Follow the silver pipe that comes out the bottom of the pump and it should go to the injector. Slacken it off there and see what comes out as it cycles up!
Bon chance

Re: Bleed oil pump
Not fecked around with anything really and yes I totally agree that these beasts are pretty much as basic as they get.
I'll have one more crack at it later ....
