Had it fly right over my house the previous weekend of flyovers as I live 400m from the hospital ...he did a couple of circuits before tipping his wings and flying on to the Isle of Wight..

We also get the Boultbee spitfire come over occasionally from Lee on Solent it Goodwood ...never stops being an awesome spectacle though..

Red Arrows are 'touring' today too, I believe.

Can't find a site with full route and times, but West Berkshire / North Hampshire / East Berks is about 5.20 - 5.30 this afternoon.

Nice of the RAF to totally ignore East Anglia, where more airfields were based than anywhere else....

They're going to Shuttleworth. Wasn't that a WWI airfield?

They're veering into it a little bit - going just east of Bury St Edmunds.

RAF Buckingham Palace? Perhaps you should get your MP to write a stern note to Queenie ;)

FWIW, i live in West Berkshire. Lots of rolling downland so you would have thought not ideal for airfields. Just checked and, within a 15 mile as the Spit flies radius, we had 7 airfields. That's a fair density.

Are the Royal Navy doing a swim/paddle/motor around the UK's dockyards? ;)

AFAIK, the route was planned (some fly pasts cancelled due to poor weather) to include UK capital cities, with tie-ins at stop points such as meeting veterans. Also over-flying the Chelsea Hospital.

Planners can't really win

Apparently they received so many complaints about lack of recognition for Bomber Command, Royal Navy and Royal Marines, that the display was cancelled:

Sadly, the appalling weather this afternoon has forced us to cancel today’s flypast over #London for #VJDay75. Very disappointing but safety always our first priority. #RedArrows

No, he was pissed off because the Red Arrows were going to miss some.

Although I don't know where the suggestion came from that their tour was only an 'RAF' thing?

TBF few of those bases were significant in the defeat of Japan... and many were USAAF stations. :)

Please enlighten us, which of the bases on the flight path was based around RAF bases which were significant to the defeat of Japan. IIRC Enola Gay took off from the Mariana Island...and it wasn't an RAF bird...

Although it's funny you should mention some, although called RAF xxx some were indeed USAAF, now I wonder who actually finished WWII with the dropping of two atomic bombs.... RAF or USAAF.

Everyones scared to go near the USAF based in case some dopey spies wife wipes them out driving on the wrong side of the road, so there's no point in them getting a fly past.
