I suddenly had a flash back, on ITV Teletext, after a certain time, they used to publish erotic stories, I'm sure I didn't imagine this.

There was also a quiz that was pretty cool.

I knew a lass who would book two weeks off. Have a case packed in advance and sit glued to teletex till she found a great deal. 9 times out of 10 it was booked and she was gone the next day or two.

IIRC BBC channels had 'ceefax', everyone else had teletext.

I worked with a guy who, it was rumoured, watched the Teletext soap opera.

As a child I used to love watching the live subtitles on 888, which of course were typed by a real person (with a clever keyboard ISTR). Always made me laugh watching them try - and succeed - to keep up.

Christmas Movies were listed in the special double edition of Radio Times of course.

Teletext is generic. BBC had Ceefax, ITA had ORACLE, France had Minitel (with dedicated little screen all over the place) etc

I used the 'what's on', the footy results and financial/business/share prices stuff iirc.

Our "cheap Saturday afternoon fun" at uni was to spend the morning in the caff perusing the football fixtures, drop in to the bookies and put a quid on an 8 match accumulator, then spend the afternoon in front of Teletext cheering (or not) the goals in.

Haha, that does bring back some memories! Teletext had its quirks, that's for sure. Shows our age, doesn't it?

I have an old valve wireless that has an insanely good tone.

I remember getting the RUC radio, it was a harmonic though. I bought a scanner and had all their comms in the late 80's/early 90s. No wonder they kept getting ambushed.

Portland holidays on teletext. Look on Friday, book on saturday, go Saturday night, all for £99 for a week in Spain, loved it!!
In fairness I was a lot younger and thought Salou, Lloret and Tossa were nice places!!

That's why guitar players (among others) have traditionally loved old valve amps,though solid state modelling amps are now getting so good most can't tell any difference.

Have you ever had to replace the valves? It's just that Marshall recommend replacing them in power amps every two years and pre-amps every four. From memory valve radios just went on forever!

Nope, I have another for spares though if the need arises

Supposedly guitar amps sound best just before the valves die. I can believe iy, 'cause the classic electric guitar noise is generated by valves running essentially beyond their specs (hence the term "overdrive"). People will go out of their way to digitally capture the behaviour of a nearly fucked amp.
