I am kinda hoping France kicks their butts, but I'm not sure that will happen


Turns out the bar across from me (who's customers make all the noise at 2am when leaving ) is open for the match, so my mate from down the road is coming up to meet me at 9pm so we can watch with some atmosphere! (I suspect that if I watch at home, the chances are I'll fall asleep as I'm normally in bed by 10pm!! LOL)

Have to admit I'm a Northern Hemisphere fan. The All Black's ruled the roost for a looooong time. It's going to be interesting - are England really the disaster zone they appear to be? Are Australia really 'under construction'?, will the French play like muscular angels or get a bit miffed, sulk and implode?

Knowing how things stand, England might be getting the heeby-jeebies about the Pumas.

Well that was interesting! The bar ‘showing’ the match was literally just doing that. No sound/commentary
It’s not the easiest to understand French commentary, but watching with none was a challenge


But, think I might have to rewatch in english tomorrow to understand more. The result was good tho. Might not text my kiwi mate for a few days!! Already had a text saying “don’t say a word”, so I might not reply



Planning to watch the Irish then the English matches tomorrow. If the Irish one doesn’t clash with the sprint race!! But the bar isn’t open for any more matches - unless France is in the final!!!

When the French were 5-0 down in five minutes, I thought they were going to get annihilated. They fought back and despite more than one poor decision by the referee team they came through. The atmosphere on the beach where I was watching was amazing and the smell of BO wasn't too bad.

Well, I do very much love rugby and appreciate that the WC is in France, but FFS, Canal+ are not showing the Sprint Race cos of the rugby

Well at least the Italians have won a game!

Wasn't going to bother watching given their last few games, but glad i did.

Rugby is really the only sport I am interested in. I don't even open threads about motor racing or football, let alone post in them

Watching with no commentary would be better than having to listen to ITV's commentary. I'm really missing Eddie Butler and Brian Moore.

This is probably the poorest NZ team ever in a World Cup, France were comfortable winners and had a bit to spare, they are going to be hard to beat.

England v Argentina was a bit of a surprise. Like CS I thought the Argies would be a tough test but they were very poor this evening. England were not brilliant but they just kept the scoreboard ticking over. They never looked like scoring a try but to be fair they didn't really attempt to, just took the penalties and drop goals whenever they got the chance. Not pretty, but effective - it looked a lot like a Warren Gatland coached Wales.

Talking about Wales, I'm a little bit worried about tomorrow's match against Fiji...

I get mildly interested in the refereeing of rugby for ten minutes, and then without fail I fall asleep.

Typical summary of an English performance by a " Taff " ...... ....... My mum was Welsh !

You can only play the team against you ! England defended exceptionally well . They certainly worked damned hard .

I missed the offending tackle and my Kiwi mate was joyful that Curry had been sent off for an appalling tackle.

When I watched it I could see the need for a yellow, for the head contact. But TBF, I didn't think Curry 'made' that tackle - it sort of happened to him; as in that he wasn't being agressive, he was there waiting for the landing? So I do think the red card was a bit OTT

What I don't know is if he's able to play in the next game or not? I can't remember the rules and if I could, they would probably have changed by now!!

It was not a pretty match indeed. But damn they played way better than I expected!! I don't really support England, but, much to my mate's chagrin, I couldn't bring myself to support Argentina (history I suppose!) and so I was surprisingly happy when they won. He kept saying it was a boring 'kick' match, but I thought the defense/tackling was pretty darned good - especially compared to what I'd expected!!! I'm not really sure the Argentinian team made it out of the dressing room

A tad nervous about the Fiji game. Hopefully Warren Gattland will have given the players a bit more structure than the last couple of years.
Fiji have been a bit of a bogey team for Wales over the years.

England were extremely good in defence, and Ford's boot was in superb form, Curry was harsh, yellow for the contact but it was accidental FFS, he wrapped well below shoulder height. OTOH, given the handling skills and open play displayed in the France/NZ match I cannot see England getting much beyond the group stages.

I was fortunate enough to watch last nights game with an Argentinian friend.

Every time England scored "Hand of god didn't help you that time"

It wasn't a great game, but a win is a win !

England were very good. They went into the game as underdogs, within the first 3 minutes lost their wonderboy who many thought would bring the pack back to its former glory and spent the next 77 minutes putting Argentina under so much pressure that they never got their game together, despite having an extra man. The score flattered the Argies.

I totally agree with him and was shouting at the telly for them to kick it out of bounds the second they got their hands on the ball, maybe he was a tad OTT, but if their captain had been doing his job he wouldn't have needed to mouth off.
