New Aprilia RS
I swear manufacturers seem to be making make their smaller capacity bikes better-looking than the big ones....the new RS457:

Re: New Aprilia RS
Let's hope it doesn't go bang like the 660.
Should be OK, looks like it's on the 47hp A2 licence limit.
Three ride modes, looks like it has switchable ABS too. Only gets single disc up front and basic preload adjustable suspension, and looks like it'll be built in India so hopefully will be priced accordingly.
Makes Ducati's decision not to have an affordable entry level machine even more inexplicable.

Re: New Aprilia RS
I hung around some Aprilia owner's forums when I was tempted by an RSV4 Tuono, but given the horrendous reliability record of modern Aprilias in general,I can't see me ever buying one. There is no good reason these days for any manufacturer to consistently punt out the same faults year on year and convince me that's acceptable.
They do look lovely though. Aprilia make some of the best looking and performing bikes out there. It's a shame there's always a catch.

Re: New Aprilia RS
I think it must be *way* easier to package a parallel twin than any kind of four so it should be a lot simpler to make it look slim in proportion to its wheelbase.

Re: New Aprilia RS
They’ve been making gorgeous bikes for years, and there are thousands of riders out there/here who would definitely buy one …. But won’t, because.
You’d think someone would fix that.

Re: New Aprilia RS
That's a great looking bike, but considering they can't make reliable 20k bikes I'd not trust their budget models. Then again maybe it'll be more reliable if built in India rather than at Aprilia

Re: New Aprilia RS
I like it. I never had issues with any of my Aprilia's, those being an RSV Mille, a Falco, a Leonardo (scooter), a Dorsoduro 750 and an RS250.
You will note all were older models. Are they really getting unreliable?

Re: New Aprilia RS
At a training session ahead of the launch of the BMW F650, dealers were asked to write on a whiteboard potential sales themes for the bike.
To great hilarity, the first up wrote "legendary Italian build quality".
It turned out that there were fewer warranty claims than the German-built bikes.

I've not owned anything German, but from what I've read German build quality is a bit of a myth.Horse wrote: ↑Sun Sep 10, 2023 6:48 pmAt a training session ahead of the launch of the BMW F650, dealers were asked to write on a whiteboard potential sales themes for the bike.

Re: New Aprilia RS
I've had 5 (or 6?). Like most they had their better periods of manufacture. None of them really liked all year round use but I didn't pamper them. Occasional hose down and spray with (I think) a Muc- off spray, never used ACF). The later ones liked it less than the earlier ones. I suspect the quest to make them lighter made them a bit less durable. Never had any warranty claims on the new ones (unlike the one Honda...cam chain tensioner of course) or serious issues with the older ones. The electrics were fine, no fried reg/recs or other nightmares.Supermofo wrote: ↑Mon Sep 11, 2023 8:55 amI've not owned anything German, but from what I've read German build quality is a bit of a myth.Horse wrote: ↑Sun Sep 10, 2023 6:48 pmAt a training session ahead of the launch of the BMW F650, dealers were asked to write on a whiteboard potential sales themes for the bike.

They're OK but not as marv as is sometimes claimed. I guess reputations last longer than they should sometimes.

Re: New Aprilia RS
I bought a Shiver new. Within 6 months the engine was fucked and back in the garage. It took c. 6m to get the parts (I had their demonstrator through the winter, so no skin off my nose), finally got it back and few months later I got T-boned by a VW Golf.
Much as all the horror stories are all anecdotal, there do seem to be a lot of 'em about.
