Old Codger on tour – again!
This time it is the Pyrenees. Shorter tour this time, only 10 days, and 2 of them are on a boat. Plymouth to Santander by ferry, ride down the Pyrenees to Andorra, turn around and ride back by a different route, and then catch the ferry home again. Easy peasy, even for an old codger on a gurl’s bike.
This time I have researched and perfected the difficult (for an old fart) art of taking a picture on the phone and posting it to TRC without the intermediate stage of transferring to my laptop, and the 3-4 week delay. Watch this space!
Bike is fettled, new tyres (all scrubbed in now) and new chain and sprockets. Now waiting for the off on September 24th. Only a quick flip to Plymouth at the UK end, no long slog to the Tunnel or to Felixstowe this time. https://magellanmotorcycletours.co.uk/t ... ic-cities/
Another trip with Magellan Motorcycle Tours, the 3rd time I have been with them. Not the cheapest, but certainly one of the best tour companies. Lots of information, full satnav files, decent hotels, good guides, and a general feeling of confidence that if the shit does hit the fan they will do their best by you. If you want a guided tour, and they go the places you want to go, I thoroughly recommend them.
And no, I don't get a discount for recommending them!
So 24th September, mark it in your diaries and this time there WILL be pics.

How long do you spend riding each day?
Is it a group of people all riding together?
Is it a group of people staying at the same hotel each night?

Depends, usually 4 -5 hours
If they want to, all have the GPS routes, and you can swan off by yourself. Usually the group breaks into smaller groups of like-minded people, but this is not a formal thing.
Yes. Usually with 1 or 2 group dinners during a tour. Other nights people can do their own thing.

Sounds good, I don't like riding in groups, but meeting up with people in the evening sounds good.

Ha! As it so happens, I will be in the south of France from 7th September to 8th October, so there really is no excuse not to meet up at some point. I could make the jaunt across France to Andorra and meet you there. Does that sound like the germination of A Plan.Cousin Jack wrote: ↑Thu Aug 31, 2023 10:17 am So 24th September, mark it in your diaries and this time there WILL be pics.
(Assuming you actually want to meet a reprobate such as I, of course... )

Re: Old Codger on tour – again!
Last 2 tours, with Magellan, and in fact every organised tour I have been on, 99% of the people have been great and we have all got on together.
On longer tours there are usually several 'rest days' where we stay at a hotel for a couple of nights. Ride outs are organized, or you can do your own thing, or nothinh at all.
It is all 'organized', but not regimented if you know what I mean. You can opt out, ride by yourself, and follow a different route. It is your holiday.

Re: Old Codger on tour – again!
The tour organisers (or your good self) have picked a good time for such jolly japes. For the most part the end of September is an ideal time to be riding motorcycles in the south of France - just about the right level of heat, all the tourists have gone home and prices have returned to reasonable levels.

I'm looking forward to the photos as this is an area I want to 'do' as soon as I can ride far enough

Off tomorrow. All packed, bike ready, watch this space. Only problem is the somewhat stormy weather tomorrow, with the infamous Bay of Biscay ahead.

On board the Pont Aven, just leaving Plymouth after a couple of hours queuing. Why does travel always require multiple queues?

Bon voyage, CJ and have a splendid time. I'm not entirely sure whether I'll be able to meet up in Andorra, but will keep you posted on developments.
