How easy is it to rebuild a m/c seat?
I have been looking at getting the triumph bench seat made a little more comfortable - via Tom Hurley. How easy is it to rebuild with medical gel / memory foam etc yourself, or does it always look like a dogs dinner ?

Why bother doing it yourself when Tony Archer will do a proper job, for probably under a ton.

Depends what you want, a race seat where you sit directly on the foam is pretty easy, something that looks good is difficult.
If you want the seat to be more comfortable, good luck, IME the only way for a motorcycle seat to be comfortable is for it to be wide and thick.

I had forgotten about Tony Archer - just checking if he is still trading.
Anyone know of anyone in the south east?

I've had a couple of seats covered by them, my mate had a GPz1100 seat made from a bare base by them.

Re: How easy is it to rebuild a m/c seat?
The 98 ZX9R had a seat which closely imitated an instrument of torture. I cut away the stock foam and set in a gel pad. I used the stock cover to finish. There was no visible difference that I could see,but a world of difference in comfort.
It's not terribly difficult to make a job of it. Borrowing the electric carving knife from the kitchen undetected, carried way more risk in my case.

Re: How easy is it to rebuild a m/c seat?
I got mine done by Tom Hurley. It helped that I was close enough to drop it off.
It cost about £240 for both seats from what I recall. Just a straight swap for medical gel/memory foam although he did narrow mine slightly at the front.
A nice enough job but the wife still complains about numb bum so I’m at a bit of a loss about what to do next.
Mine certainly feels better and it was probably worth doing.

He has quoted me 325 GBP - plus I need to get it there. Kind of just trying to bench mark !Scotsrich wrote: ↑Tue Aug 22, 2023 11:31 am I got mine done by Tom Hurley. It helped that I was close enough to drop it off.

That must be a reshape or recover I’m assuming as that seems a bit steep.Mr Moofo wrote: ↑Tue Aug 22, 2023 9:58 pmHe has quoted me 325 GBP - plus I need to get it there. Mine was just a basic remove the interior and replace then use the existing covers.
Much as he made a great job what he did wasn’t rocket science and if you just want a simple job I’m sure you could find someone nearer. His custom stuff is lovely tho and probably well worth the money.
(If you do decide to use him and he doesn’t post you can send them to me and I can drop it off)
