1968 Egli-Vincent 1330 by Godet

I vaguely remember hearing about Egli-framed Vincents in my yoof, and at the time regarded them as the unattainable ultimate - not quite sure why. Stumbling around on the web I found this - I'm pretty sure my teenage self would have been suitably impressed:

It seems that Fritz Egli, before his death, handed over the rights to produce the frames to Patrick Godet, and this is one of his creations.

That’s a BSA Gold Star “track silencer” copy.



According to legend, the first version of it was made to sneak a megaphone into a race formula that required a silencer. the front tapered section was a megaphone, with a concealed reverse cone where it met the parallel section.

Within the parallel section was a perforated centre tube, surrounded by glass wool packing, to do a little bit of silencing.

Yes, take your point - it's very obvious from the rear on view. You do wonder how the builder could miss such a glaring error. I suspect they wanted to keep the arc of the pipes as seen from the side and had to flare the pipe/silencer out to avoid missing the suspension units. If they'd gone with a lower exit exhaust they could have tucked it in a fair bit more.

They could have put a bash in the side of the silencer and bring it in closer.

Ogri would have done that.

Although Ogri was on a Norvin, which wouldn’t have cost him all that much to make.
