Not. I think that looks pretty good.
The rider triangle is awful though, it would definitely want higher bars at least.

Those monos handle well, but the forks are wayyyy too short, the riding position will cripple you and being an R65, just about anything bigger than a 125 will pass you except 883 Harleys.

And 8 grand is totally taking the piss.

20 years ago I was riding about on an old R80 I had bought from a scrappy. I paid 200 quid for it, the ex-RUC R80RT I had before that cost 800.

Being butchered like those two monstrosities removes any appeal for an old, slow bike. The look like shiny versions of old despatch bikes that we had back in the day, now they've old, slow ugly bikes.

I'm sure if @Rockburner still had the Mirth, some muppet with NHS specs and crap tattoos would give him 20k for it.

The Mirth was a tool, plain and simple. I'm sure that someone could waste a lot of time and welding rod on making it suitable for a place in the BikeShed, but why?

I quite like the stripped down look for summer sunny tootling. You don't need muguards, you don't need tailpipes that blot out the sun, you don't need a mass of unnecessary electronics.

That said, this genre is more suited to have-a-go shed enthusiasts riding on the cheap. Those who have no skills at all are having them built to order from little custom houses. I doubt they're making a fortune out of it.

I quite like some of the boxer customs,but every man and his pooch is doing variations on the theme and what was maybe a decent idea is fast becoming a bit passé. Knobbly tyres are a giveaway for hipster fuckwittery.

I really like the stripped back racer versions with the 60's nose fairings and jacked up rear ends. I rather have a new R9T than any of these.

I'll never understand why you bother to build a bike around a really terrible motor though. In the old days it was because you were skint.

The 80 was a sweet engine, didn't shake as much as the 100 and was quick enough for the road. But I think the main reason is that it's a visually striking engine with the two big finned cylinders sticking out in the breeze.

Probably similar reasons today. The base bikes are plentiful, not expensive, spares easy to get etc etc. Why start with something expensive and exotic or UJM looking? Either if you're building for yourself or looking to add in a big chunk of profit margin.

Matter of opinion of whether the engines are 'terrible' though. Good solid, easy to work on etc. These things are built for leisure and pleasure. Keep the bike light, make sure it handles and Bob's your mother's brother.

I quite like the wartime despatch look - they look like some of the Motos of War on Instagram. Chuck the chunky tyres, resist the urge to put bar mirrors on, no brown seats and no 'cruel and unusual punishment' riding positions and yes, I'd have one for pottering about on. Totally impractical for anything else but that's nothing unusual.
