Looking back at my biking history this is the closest I’ve come to a ‘normal’ for many years.

It’s either been sports (GSXR’s) sports tourers (ZZR 1100’s Sprint GT) or latterly GS’s.

I’m looking forward to just pottering about with it.

Another attraction was the reasonable amount of pillion space. You’ve no idea how rare that is these days.

I honestly wouldn't even know what to do with a motorbike any more fella... or even when i'd ride it. There quite simply isn't the time there used to be, i'm away every single weekend, all weekend, plus evenings out with riding/coaching. I think i'd struggle to top 200 miles a year currently.

That though, is a lovely looking thing and if i were to own something, i'd be more than happy if it was that.

Lovely bike, do like the R. And the 1250 engine is a peach. I still rate the 1250RS as one of the best all round bikes out there. But i do like a nekkid bike.

I think it's the telelever components which make the strongest odour.

First 120 miles today, most with the OH on the back.

Pillion report, she loves it. Seats not quite as big as the GS but because it’s got the BMW top box rather than a Vario she can sit further back and the support is better. And the grab handles are much better as well.

I like it too. Completely different from the GS, far more confidence inspiring stopping and starting which was what put me off the GS.
Same humongous torque which encourages you to be lazy on the downshifts.

A bit more head down than I expected. I didn’t realise that speccing that colour introduces the ‘sport’ package with corresponding lower bars. Oh well you live and learn, maybe risers in the future.

The screen doesn’t seem to do much or maybe I’m just not used to naked bikes.

As with most modern bikes the weight disappears when moving (it’s by no means a lightweight), brakes are good, gearbox is good with the shift assist being smoother than my GS. I bought Daytona GTX boots to try and get round the height dilemma of the GS and I’m struggling to get my foot under the gear lever which I’ll need to raise if possible.

Handles really well especially when it’s set to dynamic. Dynamic engine mode really perks it up as well.

It’s not a tourer but it’s not marketed as that but 200 mile days would be reasonable. I definitely felt the distance I did today tho.

It doesn't look very head down. Looks like it could be quite a long reach though?

Seats just gone to Tom Hurley to be implanted with memory foam and medical gel.

Mine is okay but the OH is complaining hers is uncomfortable so I might as well get mine done as well as it’s not a lot more for both than one.

While he’s doing mine I’m having it narrowed slightly at the front to make it easier to flat foot. It’s doable as standard but a little help won’t go amiss. He recommended that rather than shaving a bit off the whole seat which was my first thought. A less acute angle on the old hips and knees.

This one will be fine as it has "proper" forks

Ridden a couple of them and really like that engine, they are surprisingly quick too
