Diesel Corsa. Of course its broken..

Post by chillitt »

Given that the Transit Is slowly decaying to the point even I cant put up with it, and another one may be along in a few months, I have been lent a little Corsa. No, its no bloody use when I need a Transit sized thing, and no, its not something I really want, but It will keep me going for a bit. Anyway, on top of that, it wont start without easy start. Fuel pump works well, fuel filter works fine. So Im thinking there is a fuel shut off on the injector pump somewhere thats not performing properly. Does anyone know of a decent forum that isnt over run with chavvy little tosspots pretending this little rollerskate is a race car?

One is broken, but I cant see that making much odds. Apparently they only come on when its below 0 (not 100% sure on that..) As soon as it catches with easystart it runs nice and smooth, I'd expect it to be a bit lumpy if it was glowplugs. I need to check for error codes so need to find software for the laptop or a reader.

How old is it?

If it's an old one and direct injection it could be air getting in the system either from a leaky injector union or a dodgy priming bulb, etc..

Its a 1.4 Ecotek. 2004. If it was the old Isuzu 1.7 I might have more idea..

Sure it's not a 1.3?

I think it's a FIAT common rail.

CR diesels are far too complicated.

I reckon it's a leak somewhere, the rail depressurises and cranking doesn't prime it back up, but getting it running on the easy start spins it over fast enough to get the pressure up high enough to run properly on diesel.

I'd be checking all the hoses and the filter.

Is the battery okay?

It’s maybe not turning over fast enough to get the fuel pressure up.

Try jumping it from another battery.

As a free check it’s worth a go.

Having pretty much given up on this one, (codes cleared now its relearnt the original fault) the owner has decided to take it away to get an MOT on it. Fat chance.. So this one has arrived. it has no common rail, no OBD port and no bloody codes to read. Apart from that, its horrible. MOT on Monday. here's hoping...

Ooo, has it got manual Windows with razor sharp door pockets that cut your hands up when you get to a toll booth?

They're not 'manual' windows.

They're 'keep fit' windows.

I think both of these would benefit from a little TLC like that..

Two little rust holes to sort, and a quick tinker with the back lights. thats very nearly an MOT pass! :D
Also, got the other one running this morning.

Normally I'd say 'You mean you hope it's nearly an MOT pass' but I you are probably familiar with every MOT failure point. You should sell it as a service where people can bring their cars to you for a £5 once over to see if it's worth spending £50 on the real MOT.
