Verge Motorcycles have teamed up with two-time F1 World Champion Mika Häkkinen to design a signature version of their TS Pro electric motorbike, of which just 100 will be produced.

Häkkinen and Verge Motorcycles teamed up at the beginning of the year, when Häkkinen was appointed to the company’s Advisory Board. Häkkinen is also one of the investors in Verge.

The bike uses the company’s TS Pro model as its foundation and features the now familiar hub-less motor creating an incredible 737lb.ft of instant torque.

“I know from experience what it takes to develop a vehicle that embodies speed, precision and elegance,” explained Häkkinen.

“I wanted to design the bike right down to the smallest detail rather than just picking the colour. Each bike is numbered and features an exclusive signature. This electric superbike represents the future of riding and is a testament to a life lived to the fullest.”

In addition to the signature plate the Mika Häkkinen Edition features an all blacked out suspension set up with 120mm of travel up front and 106mm at the rear.

The seat, which stands 780mm from the ground is constructed from two leathers, one dappled one smooth, coloured to match the bikes dual-tone livery of dark grey and silver.

The side of the battery has a carbon fibre surround as a nod to Häkkinen’s motor racing pedigree, while the rest of the frame has a thin ceramic coating that protects against scratches.

The power unit, which offers 102kW maximum output (equivalent to around 137bhp), is powered by a battery that can completely recharge in a claimed 35 minutes and will give the rider up to 217 miles of range, while a quick charge of ten minutes provides around 60 miles touring.

“We are extremely proud to have F1 legend Mika Häkkinen design the signature model. He is one of the greatest drivers of all time and breaking boundaries and enjoying the thrill of speed is something that we very much share in common,” added Tuomo Lehtimäki, CEO of Verge Motorcycles.

The 100 units will be available throughout Europe and will cost 80,000 Euros.

Verge TS Pro Mika Häkkinen Edition in detail
Signature edition: Each of the 100 bikes will be individually numbered and feature a signature plate embossed with the two-time F1 Champion’s signature.
Carbon details: The carbon fibre battery surround has been added as a link to the McLaren F1 cars that the Flying Finn drove to success in 1998 and 1999.
Two-tone: The Mika Häkkinen Special Edition is finished in a subtle dark grey and silver colour scheme. The rear suspension set-up has also been blacked out to add to the stealth look.
Reinventing the wheel: Central to the Verge line-up’s incredible torque output is the hub-less motor that requires no chain or belt drive thus maximising space in the central part of the bike for battery capacity.
Ceramic finish: The ceramic coating on the Verge uses Nano technology to cure to the paint offering a glass like protective layer that protects against minor scratches and ultra-violet light.

Up to 217 miles range? Sounds good, but it would be nice to see figures like 'urban cycle' etc when manufacturers quote figures. 35 minutes charging looks good too.

€80,000 though. Ouch!

Rule of thumb, based on reading multiple spec sheets / reviews of electric bikes is divide 'up to' range by 2/3 to get 'open road' range. So say 75 miles. That makes is ball park with other performance e-bikes.

75 mins is prob something like 20 to 80% rather than brim-full, unless they have something I've not read about. Fastest battery tech around at the moment appears to be being developed by US manufacturer Lightning in partnership with Enervate. They have a bike undergoing road testing with the fast charge battery at the moment.

Having heard Mika speak many times on TV, i don't believe for a second he said any of what he's quoted as saying.

He might have said: "I helped design this bike. I like it".

I wonder how long it takes to swap the rear wheel out and in. Just thinking, 1000nm torque after all.

1000Nm isn't a lot for a wheel. That's about normal at the wheel.

OK it IS a lot, but not in the context of what's normal for a high performance vehicle. Supercars might be 2500Nm.

It’s because his arm is rigid and locked, if he was relaxed it would look less of a stretch.
