I'm uncle to a RD350LC

Post by The Spin Doctor »

When I was a courier, I always wanted one... but stayed sensible and had five or six (I can never remember) CB250RS's...

But little bro has just won the auction for this particular bike:

It's not perfect, little rough around the edges, and hopefully won't prove a money pit.

He was looking at another that sold for rather more than he was prepared to pay a few days back. That bike was in Florida... he's in LA... this bike is much more convenient to pick up, he said... it's in S Oregon. That's only 800 miles away!

Now... I just have to think about how I'm going to get over there to ride it!!

There's some great prices on classic bikes in the US. Everyone in the UK seems to want big money even for piles of corroded shite.

Some of the US prices have been bonkers... GT380 in average condition for $10k??

I hope i am wrong but reading through the auction listing it refers to quite a few "this doesnt work and that doesnt work" but at no point does it say that the engine actually runs. Brave buy and hopefully doesnt end up costing a fortune to get things moving

Vids of it running. Little bro's pretty savvy too. He's costed it and reckons he's not overpaid. Fingers crossed.

Good to know. There are a few around here i see that get ridden to the local bike meets and drooled over by people my age as they are all minted and immaculate.

Makes me think back to the absolute shed of a RD250LC i used to own as a yoof. Yellow painted frame, blue tank, yellow wheels, crashed loads by previous owners but was cheap when i bought it and had a tuned engine so cock all power till about 9500 then WAAAAAAA for a couple of thousand rpm then nothing. Interesting to ride, raced it a couple of times badly then sold when i joined the RAF as i had 3 bikes at the time but needed to get rid of 2 as parents had nowhere to keep them when i moved south with 1 bike to carry all my worldy goods between training bases

Looks better than the 250 I had after an interface with a Granada, and better than the 350 I had that had an interface with a Capri

I bought a 1989 GSXR750 from them, it was a pile of poo, best thing I did with it was trade it in for a YZF750

I think I've had 6 LCs, I only crashed 2 of them into Fords, I don't know how many times I came off my first 250LC, it was a lot.

I lowsided mine on the roundabout outside Chelmsford Car auctions. Fortunately only about 20 people I know saw it and the only brought it a few times a year, every year for the next 5 or so...

*Vintage* bike day at the RockStore is the 3rd Sunday (morning) of the month... which also happens to be Kaw Day. Where in LA is he? (Please don't say Santa Monica....)

I hit a Granada right in the B pillar with an '80 Z13. At the time I was still recovering from putting a '79 Kaw Z1000 into the side of a Conex on a roundabout. I left a Rick shaped dent in the side of it. Limped away from the Z13 wreck, woke up in hospital 22 days after the Z1000 incident. It was dark, thought it was later the same day. 1300 was totaled, 1000 barely had a mark on it.
