Belgom Alu is great for polishing brass,copper or aluminium. It's supposed to leave a protective coating too,but with salty water it may need something more durable.

Ah. Skub's suggestion should do the trick. You could try a lacquer of some sort but I suspect it will still darken somewhat and then be difficult to shine up again.
