Anyone bought one of these Emma mattresses? Our king size mattress is in need of replacing and they seem highly rated and have 25% off at present.

100 day free trial aren't they, what have got to lose?

Bought a Rem-fit 500 Hybrid ortho mattress last year when their perpetuating faux sales offer was offering a good discount on the mattress rather than additional freebies. Placed the order on-line, then next day received an email advising that they were out of stock but would give me an additional 30% discount if I was willing to wait an extra 4 weeks for delivery - the profit margins on these lumps of foam must be pretty good.

Anyway, after 8 months of use I'd give it a 10/10, assume the Emma version will be similar. For reference, after discounts I paid £594.30 for the King size plus they threw in bamboo mattress protector. Their king size range starts at about £560 atm

Thanks dude. Narrowed it down to the Emma, Simba or Rem-Fit. Going to do some more research then order one.

I had one of the early ones .. Can't remember the name offhand... The yellow one !

First hundred days were fine, then it started developing a dent exactly where i often lie that wouldn't go away. I wouldn't say it was uncomfortable, but it was irritating if i wanted to try and lie slightly differently.

Just to add to this mumsnetty thread, a good (and by that I mean expensive: 'buy cheap, buy twice' as my ol' mum says) mattress topper makes any bed a whole lot more comfy. Can't recall where ours is from, might be John Lewis, but it went off for cleaning the other week and the difference was really noticeable.

I tried the Simba. TL:DR- way too hot and not comfortable enough.

In the end, opted for a bezillian spring, super thick mattress. Well worth the investment.

I would highly recommend a Dunlopillo Latex mattress. It depends on what you prefer to lay on (no rude retorts thank you ) but they have a variety of finishes.

I prefer a firm mattress and so bought a Dunlopillo Firmrest Latex mattress 25 years ago. It wasn't cheap at the time, around £1,000 but definitely worth the money. It has been so comfortable and is only just starting to slightly sag towards the middle. People say they can be too warm to lie on but I don't find it a problem. In fact having tried a few other mattresses before lock down, I ordered another Dunlopillo Firmrest Latex mattress, which is due for delivery in August.

I have slept on memory foam mattresses but they didn't work for me. I think they're a Marmite mattress - people either find them brilliant or hate them. For me they cause pins and needles in my limbs, which is what they're supposed to stop! Anyway wouldn't have anything other than a latex mattress now.

You do need the mattress to be in decent shape to start with though. If you try and add an expensive topper to an already sagging bed, it will just sag in the same way as the bed does.

There's a tonne of these new-fangled cheap-ish online boxed mattresses around. I got one a couple of years ago, Eve maybe? I'd have to walk up the stairs to check and CBA Think they're all much of a muchness.

It was a great improvement over the dead, flimsy thing we had before, and it's still OK I suppose but it's quite saggy now and didn't take long to get like that.

You pays yer money with mattresses I'm afraid, and for 3 or 400 quid they're fine. Compare them to a full-price, quality sprung mattress and the difference will be obvious, especially after a few months.

We stayed at a relative's a couple of years back who'd spunked 4 grand on a mattress (Hypnos or Vispring I think) that we slept on. We scoffed at the amount, lay down on it and both said 'fuck me!' immediately. Best night's sleep ever. I could've detected a pea under that bad boy.

This time next year, Rodney, I'll spunk 4 grand on a mattress.

Just remembered that I think our bed was actually the wrong kind for the mattress we bought. These memory foam-based ones are designed to sit on a flat bottom or something with close slats. They don't support their own weight in the same way as a thick, sprung mattress so need more support. Or something.

Many years ago we bought our mattress from these people, brilliant mattress (it's an Artisan Bespoke something.or.other). As you say above, you get what you pay for.

We went for a nectar mattress as the trial period was 365 days.

I’m in two minds after 3 months, it is comfortable but we’ve added a huge topper to it as it was too firm when it arrived.

Like RH, our last mattress went the same way and this one could well end up like that sooner than I’d like a grand’s worth of latex to go...

We have a Dormeo Silver thingy mattress. Was £800, got it for £400. Been well worth it. King size one. Comfortable whether you sleep on your back or side. Does not allow you to roll together, which is good, because I am much bigger and heavier than my wife. I'd buy one again happily.

It’s comfortable enough so no complaints so far.

I’m surprised it doesn’t need turning over periodically but that’s what they say.

Certainly no hesitation in recommending them.

I've been suffering from insomnia a lot lately? My Sister told me to get a mattress topper, saying, get a silentnight airmax as she can't believe what a difference its made to her sleep etc blah. I said I had thought about a new mattress although ours isn't old. Anyway, talked into it, I bought one and stuck it on the bed and initially thought wtf difference can that make! Well, sleep wise, none at all but, bloody he'll they do make the bed more comfortable don't they! The wife hasn't stopped banging on about how well she sleeps with that on there. Bitch!

Proper pocket sprung mattress is what you need (even if you don't want to be a record breaker)

Last time I asked for advice I bought a John Ryan. Now added a plywood base over the sprung slats.

Alternatively, buy one with a free trial, try it send it back, try another etc
