1982 Moto Guzzi V50

Post by iansoady »

I've owned this V50 for 3 years and have now decided to part with it.

The bike is in excellent condition; I had all the paintwork professionally done a couple of years ago and the stainless silencers and pipes professionally polished. Other than this it's in very nice although not concours cosmetic condition. I've fitted a Suzuki (I think) left hand switch cluster as I couldn't get on with the original and kept flashing the lights instead of sounding the horn.... I've also fitted a smaller diameter front master cylinder which makes the front brake less wooden.

I've fitted new stainless steel brake lines and new pads and caliper seals all round as well as a blade-type fusebox as the original Guzzi items are notorious for making poor contact.

The V50 starts on the button and runs very nicely. Clutch, gearchange, throttle response are all fine. Tyres are good. The bike is absolutely reliable, handles impeccably and is all round a delight to ride.

The MoT has been extended by coronavirus till October but I am absolutely confident it would walk through one tomorrow and would be happy to put another year on it. In a couple of years it will be eligible for free ("historic") road tax and will become MoT-exempt.

I've enjoyed the little Guzzi very much but have put very few miles on it, essentially as I was intending to use it for longer distance touring but personal circumstances have not allowed this. I find that I am now using my classic Norton ES2 for the shorter trips I'm making and have also bought a Francis Barnett Cruiser for local lanes so it's time for the V50 to move to a new home.

The bike is located in Redditch near the M42 south of Birmingham. Any examination is welcome and indeed recommended. I could arrange transport to most parts of mainland UK.

For some reason my photo isn't appearing but....

If only i had a garage/shed, always liked the look of those bikes. Bad enough with the street twin sat outside in all weathers.
May get more interest if you post a hint towards the price range you are after?
