I've taken on the role of trying to organise a two day trip in France/Belgium this spring for a bunch of like-minded boring gits. Thinking of departing on a Friday, meeting up for a late morning/midday shuttle of to Calais and then maybe down to Amiens, where we'll kip for one night, then maybe up to Lens for the second night and then back to Blighty on the Sunday. Nothing set in stone, so happy to take suggestions on alternative routes/itinieries.

I've been asked (for indeed I am all-knowing ) if there's noisy exhaust issues in France. Can't find anything in Google, but if somebody does know, spill the beans. Ta.

Ghent is lovely, Bruges is okay - but a bit over touristed, Lille is surprisingly nice - with some really good restaurants . Nip down to Thiepval for a bit of WW1 reflection - and then somewhere around there, there is a huge one crater - which has got to be worth a look.
Flemish Belgium has a max speed limit of 80kph off motorways, that makes it a boring place to travel in ( and it is full of flat , straight roads)

Feck me. Given it's a smallish group, it's already like herding bloody cats. "Can we change the dates?"..."I have another trip around there earlier in the year, can we go somewhere else?"

It taken me 6 years to get my mate's to join me on a Classic TT trip
Every time I plan something now,I tell them where & when I'm going & they're welcome to join me,no worries if they don't joiin.

Every time I plan something now,I tell them where & when I'm going & they're welcome to join me,no worries if they don't joiin.

This: set a date and stick to it, pick your own choices of location, if anyone doesn't like it, they can organise their own trip.

I’ve organised trips x 2 France and x2 wales -
I was militant about departure times for ferry’s.
I booked the accommodation because the other three wanted to let it all hang out and find somewhere when they arrived (one of them slept in a hedge on a previous occasion)
I’m going for a couple of 2 day jaunts this year on my own for a change .

That^. Most of my traveling is done alone and I prefer it that way. Other people may prefer it that way too.

Good idea. I'm going to Brittany in May with a group from another forum. It started with someone saying when and where they were going & staying, and that others were welcome. Looks like we've got about a dozen takers. If he'd tried to get a consensus, I expect we'd still be discussing it.
