The Wiltshire crew are going over the channel again this June. we're thinking of heading a bit further east than usual and going down through Germany into Switzerland and then into France somewhere north of Grenoble,
So what do you recommend - Belguim Luxembourg Germany? @weeksy I know you used to head to the Cochem area.
We've got a week - probably a Saturday morning Tunnel Crossing and returning the following Saturday.

Cochem has not only some of the best roads that you can find, but also a lovely place by the river to sit and eat, along with authentic guest houses. Add to that a fabulous road to the Ring and you really can't go far wrong. @scottyuk will be able to give you routes without any problem as he's done it a gazillion times.

You can do it many ways of course, we've done the Blat the motorway route and we've done scenic routes.... The last one i did on my orange 2018 we did a route where we stopped for lunch by a river, but the overall route was superb.

Gotta do the Black Forest, lots of great roads, not just the B500.

I would echo that, but the B500 does go where you want to go, from Baden Baden down towards the Swiss border. Use it as a spine route, but turn off and explore. Some of the small roads and small villages are stunning. The Rhine gorge is also worth considering, although some parts can get busy.

Planning to visit my son in Konigswinter later in the year which is not far north of Cochem, hopefully riding down on the old K100 with the missus.

I'll have to have a rootle in my old trip notes. Last time on a Germany trip we stayed at a place in Alsace that we'd stayed before on a hiking holiday (bit posh but great rooms and food) and a place in Luxembourg that was v popular with Dutch bikers...the room was nice as they put us in the honeymoon suite don't remember the food).

I'll see if I can dig out the details.

My puzzle is the most scenic route from calais to Baden Baden.

For the B500, I stayed here a few years back, proper biker friendly, with an honesty beer fridge, you just popped your euro in the basket and took a beer. They even ordered pizza and stuff for us from the local takeaway.

All of the Mosel valley is nice, Trier is an old (Roman) town. The whole Eifel region has some great road and places to stay. Monschau is a pretty place to stay ( if you can find accommodation). Heimbach is also quite pleasant.
The roads are windy and the landscape pretty.
I can also vouch for the Black Forest , which was a regular Sunday ride out from Zurich.

Remember , you will be eating a lot of pig ....

^the above area is obviously nr the Nurburgring. I am not suggesting you do it of a bike as too many souped up 911s pissing hot oil everywhere - but the roads around are good.
And if you want to do a bit of tax avoidance , Luxembourg is close ...

Aachen is a nice city , as is Maastricht ( which isn't far away). Namur is meant to be nice (but never been there)
If you venture further, Heidelberg is worth a visit.

I have, the castle is nice, the rest of the town is a bit meh, the roads were poorly surfaced and had pot holes in 2005

It’s a nice enough town and the citadel is worth a ride up, lots of cafes etc.

I stopped in on the way back home a few years ago with a plan of finding where the MX track used to be. Rode around for half an hour stumped before finally giving up. When I turned round to leave I realised I was exactly at the particular corner of the course I’d most hope to find

Trier is 90% shit hole but still has a Woolworths in the town centre. < Yes it was the highlight TBF i was only there one night and fecked from a long drive. The camp site was a trek through industrial area and the odd brothel to the town centre for food and drinks.
