We have a thread for motorbikes but as we've got a few cyclists i thought i'd add one for pedal bikes too.

This is my first entry, looks fantastic !

But that colour scheme is not so good ..

I have a personal dislike of derailleur gears, they never change particularly well for me, I'd quite like to try one of the 10 speed hub gears on an eMTB, though I'm not convinced I need 10 gears, 5 widely spaced ones would be enough with the leccy motor helping out.

Not cheap but a Shand Bahookie Rohloff just needs a leccy motor.

Everything really but i guess you have to be into bicycles.
Frame: S-Works Stumpjumper, 29" wheels, S4 size
Fork: Ohlins RXF 36 - 150mm travel
Shock: Ohlins TTX Air
Wheels: Roval Traverse Carbon
Tires: Specialized Butcher, GRID Trail T9 Compound F/R
Drivetrain: SRAM X01 Eagle AXS, 34t chainring
Brakes: Magura MT7 with Bruni levers, 203mm rotors

Little things like the Ohlins forks and shock, they're fairly unusual. The exquisite X01 carbon cranks are to die for. The Rever AXS dropper post uses full cable-less technology over Ant+

Even little touches like the tool in the head tube.


Overall it's just a very nice bike.

I am guessing that, like with motorbikes, you develop brand empathy.

I have never liked Giant ( geometry , short top tubes, and the service in the local giant shop where I live). Whilst many are anti Trek , to be they pump out decent enough product.
And I don't like Specialized Bikes - which is completely irrational - as I like their shoes!! They seem to always be at the forefront of most expensive / unnecessary development - plus they were an early adopter of the Push Fit BB.
As for tools in headsets ... haven't they gone on forever about making things lighter?

I would rather have a Geometron!

It's a good question. There's nothing about Specialized that would ordinarily jump out at me from an ownership context, internal routing, meh, press-fit bottom brackets, again, meh.... But i do like their lines.

I definately have an affinty towards Whyte though in every single way.

Genuine question, what would it run instead, I only found out about dropper posts at the start of this year.

You can get both gears and droppers in a completely wireless setup now too.

I've got the Magura Vyron dropper but there's a Reverb AXS too.

gears are called Di2 and shift via buttons and i think Ant+, you have a small battery in your seat-tube with a wire, but the overall thing is wireless.. It gives precise shifting apparently.

I've seen these Di2 things being chatted about on a road cycle FB group. might have to investigate. I am well behind.

They're very clever... but fairly expensive and in a MTB context anyway, quite open to breaking in a crash IMO.

I think i've changed the gear cable on my G-160 once in a year, IMO that's fine, it shifts lovely and happily.

I agree it's nice, but I don't see it as interesting, it's a high quality conventional bicycle.

just had a quick read, bloody hell, seems cool but maybe better suited to the road then??, but a bit ££££. maybe on my next upgrade

I don't think there's many out there running it off-road, but it's certainly popular on the road bikes and whilst expensive, i guess if you've got a £5000 bike, it's not really.

Sorry, I find technical innovations more interesting than nice parts. I'd like to see bicycles with a better solution than derailleur gears, doubt if I will though because cyclists are as conservative as motorcyclists

Plenty of them about, i even posted one last week with the belt drive system. There's of course other hub based solutions too out there.
