Let's start with this one - Barcombe: Seven people rescued after removing flood barriers

Seven people have been rescued after removing warning barriers and driving along a flooded road.

They had moved the road blocks aside in an attempt to drive along Barcombe Mills Road in Barcombe, according to East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service.

The six adults and an 18-month-old child were released unharmed from two vehicles during the early hours.

I hope that their insurers tell them to take a hike.

Cretins. A work colleague had to double back a few times along the back lanes in that area before resorting to the A27 this morning.

There's a great video going around Facebook of a bloke driving an open top diesel beemer through a flood. There's an audible crack when the thing hydraulics and the con rods break.

Rufford Ford for the win. I'd been following it for the last couple of years and got hours of entertainment from it. It's the sole reason I cancelled my TV licence, who needs the BBC when you've got will it or won't it make it at Rufford Ford. Until a guy on a bike tried it at high speed breaking both of his legs and the video going viral (it was posted on the VD FB group). I seem to recall from years ago* that driving diesel engined cars through floods wasn't recommended if their air intake was submerged.

*Probably when diesel cars became popular.

French motors usually have low air intakes, unfortunately the back entrance to the biggest PSA/Renault dealership in NI used to have a tendency to flood in heavy rain.

Fair few got trashed before they spent 20 quid on a sign.

There's also the issue of the fan getting a good bite of the water which flexes the blades forward & they take out the radiator.

Not unusual to see the twunts driving up the river rather than following the road straight in front of them.

Nowt wrong with that, I often ignore road closed / flooded signs and make my own decisions, It doesn't help that the signs go out when flooding is expected and stay days / weeks / months after flooding has long since drained away.

You need a bit of common sense, need to know the road and how to guestimate depth, but it's not rocket surgery.

There are, of course, the legal implications of ignoring a road closed sign. Found this on digitalspy about a similar situation -

Yes you could be fined as you have disobeyed, a legal road sign, also you could find that your insurance would not be covered, as the road is closed to the public, so have no legal right to be on that road. The council and police have the power to close any road off for public safety reasons.

Still, as long as you are prepared to cope with the consequences you are free to do what you want.

I love my caribbean food and often get Stew chicken and the likes made with Scotch Bonnet Chillis.

I had one once where there was an almost entire chilli still whole, i thought "what the fuck, can't be that hot" and popped the whole chilli in my mouth whole! - i was running for the milk about 30 secs later - fuck me that was hot, probably one of the hottest things i have ever eaten tbh.

The signs had fallen over before I got there and were not visible, fuck 'em if they can't take a joke

A road sign doesn't always mean it's a legal requirement. Some people have got off speeding fines on clearly marked roads because the signs weren't backed up with the right legislation
