WSB vs MotoGP

The last few years the WSBK bikes have been getting closer to MotoGP lap times.
I'd be pretty surprised if Yamaha and Ducati hadn't already done back to back tests on both their respective bikes.

Wonder where the the similarities or big differences are?
Tyres are one big difference I reckon.

I think the circuits play a big part, similar to where the V4R takes advantage of the extra power and straight line speed, the twistier circuits the differences are much closer.

I remember way back in the day at Donnington, Hizzy on a Ducati put in a faster lap than Rossi on a GP bike.

Electronics have evened things out a little between the two classes,but those 10ths of a second on relatively small things are where the big costs live.

I don't know the figures exactly,but a proddy based world superbike must be around 100k + a throw,while a Motogp bike is in the millions.

All that time and money invested in Aero and exotic,low volume parts will mount up.

If it was purely about lap times we would just watch F1 - MotoGP times at over half a minute more than F1 at silverstone.

IMHO the WSBK knocks MotoGP into a cocked hat this year and last.

I muse over this off and on regularly*. It's really hard to say how much a MotoGP bike costs cause you can't buy them. Even customer teams wouldn't have a "bikes cost this much" price, and even if they did it would be a totally notional figure.

You can't run a MotoGP bike without a MotoGP team really, so it's a bit of a piece of string question.

Similarly, even if this floated figure of 100k for a superbike is correct (and its probably not too far off IMO), shouldn't you really also consider all the money spent developing the road bike in the first place for a fair comparison?

IIRC the big difference is that WSBK teams have a budget cap.

The rules on electronics are more open for WSBK than MotoGP, but with the budget cap, the 'control' electronics used in Motogp are more advanced than a WSBK team can afford.
