Re: Thoughts on the Genadier?
Saw it a couple of days ago and thought it looked an awful lot more like a modernised Defender than the modernised Defender. Cheaper too...
Not sure what JLR will think of it
Of course, real Landys have a canvas top.

Re: Thoughts on the Genadier?
I'd like to see it in the metal before I'd comment. Passable CGI though.

Re: Thoughts on the Genadier?
Remember the Santana Spanish built landys that actually had a decent Iveco engine and were shedloads cheaper than the real thing?
Nobody bought them, I suspect these will be the same.

Re: Thoughts on the Genadier?
I’ve got the same thoughts as Iccy - always preferred the 90 to the 110. If they make that version and it’s not stupidly priced I would consider one.

Re: Thoughts on the Genadier?
Presumably it will house a powertrain for which is emmision compliant and spares are already available across the globe?
So probably a Jap 3.0 Diesel?
I love the idea of it and wish them well

Re: Thoughts on the Genadier?
Too sloaney, too expensive and too complicated if they want to tout it as a genuine working 4X4 successor to the Defender.
45 grand starting price with BMW. 3.0L engines and an automatic 8 speed gearbox? No thanks.
Good luck to them but I wouldn't be buying one even if I could afford it.
the real gap in the commercial 4X4 market is for a 4X4 van with decent ground clearance, full undercarriage protection simple, grunty engines, simple cabin and £20,000 price tag new.

Such a vehicle already exists in the UAZ 452, but it would be murdered on emissions if they ever tried importing it.Gimlet wrote: ↑Sat Jul 11, 2020 2:42 pm Too sloaney, too expensive and too complicated if they want to tout it as a genuine working 4X4 successor to the Defender.

Re: Thoughts on the Genadier?
It has a pretty clear homage to Landy styling, with nods to Land Cruiser and Hummer. I'm sure it'll find a loyal following on looks alone. What it's like as a utility/offroad/expedition vehicle I'm not qualified to say but the blurb does appear to be making the right noises. I was disappointed that Land Rover had to give up making utility vehicles because they failed to develop them, got overtaken by emissions and safety then couldn't afford to catch up. Having driven a couple they were godawful relics that should maybe have stayed in the 1960s anyway. Maybe this'll turn out to be the car that picks up where LR should have got to. Which would be nice, even though I think Ratcliffe is an asshole, because car manufacturing in this country needs to get into gear and stop being reliant on multinationals who are likely to leave after tariff barriers come up.
