Best looking bike when you were 22

Post by ChrisW »

What were you lusting after, or indeed riding, when you were 22?

For me, it was the RGV250M and I was lucky enough to have one for a while.

I had one of these when I was 22, I bought it brand new when I was 21.

It was the bestest bike in the whole world ever.

1989 was a bad biking year for me, what I had was a 1979 GSX750ET that was slow and heavy, it has two saving graces, it handled nicely for a 1970s big bike and it looked like the 1100, what I wanted was a slabbie GSXR750

Dunno about the best looking bike, but this was the one I lusted after when I was 22. But with flat bars, not those silly ape-hangers...

Everyone knows that the F4 312RR in White/Black is the best looking MV... which of course depends on the year you were born.

When I was 22 I had a bike exactly like this

And I still have the bike exactly like this. It's in my garage, my other shonky old Triumph takes all my time and money.

I still love the look of this bike. It's engrained in my brain.

I crashed this fucker at least 30 times.
But got about 10 wins.

Why did you not get the 1100? I drooled over them in 85 till i seen the GPZ900R in Black N Gold. I was 23 when i passed my test in 86 and had to settle on a GS550E.

I couldn't afford to buy or insure the 1100, I also didn't realise how slow the 750 was, I replaced it with a 350 YPVS that was noticeably quicker accelerating, top speed was about the same. Buying the 750ET was a mistake, it put me off 4 strokes, it was 3 years before I bought another one, and that was the GSXR, which comfortably indicated 150mph and got there very quickly, it also handled and stopped better than the YPVS, and I don't think it was until I bought my YZF750 in 96 that I had a bike that was better than the early GSXR, I had an FZ750 and a Slingshot GSXR750 in between.
