So the next gen Suzuki middle weights will be parallel twins... like the KTM's, Aprilia RS' and the Yamaha MT's (and probably the new Hornet).

Don't open the link, both the new SV and the Wee-Strom look horrible, I hope they're just prototypes and the final bikes look betterer.

I mean... You can't really argue it from any practical standpoint. Cheaper to make, lighter, less friction from fewer moving parts so better economy, etc, etc. If you still want the sound, just put a 270° crank in it and Bob's your, err... You.

That typo made my larf (assume it was meant to be 49bhp), I had an NC700, 94bhp would have tied it in knots!

I have fond memories of my old SV. Was an amazing city commuter and great little trackday tool too. Shame about the V bit though, the sound really was awesome. Not as standard, of course, it sounded like a sewing machine. But once you'd popped down to See Jorge at Renegade to saw off the exhaust, fit a custom high-level one and stick a new airbox in then it sounded superb

I bought a Gen 2 SV650S last winter as a cheap hack bike,I was just going to ride it for a few months & chop it in for something else on my 'bargain used bike list',it's been so enjoyable that I've decided to keep it.I took it to the Classic TT the other week,the bike got positive comments from ex SV owners & on one occasion a current SV owner.This weekend I'm taking it on a camping trip to mid Wales,the Street Triple's gathering dust...
Mine's fitted with a Black widow can & I've only had positive comments about the sound it makes.



There's a lot of affection for the SV out there.The SP /PSTROM or whatever Suzuki call it will have a lot to live up to.I just hope they don't style it like something out of a transformers cartoon

I think the SV650 is the only 4 stroke twin I've enjoyed riding, great bikes, so much better than their spec sheet would make you think.

I've seen a couple of Journos recently write that away from the hype and trying one again that they prefer the current SV to the MT07 especially in the handling department.

It appears to be based on the twin cylinder engine Suzuki have had kicking around since 2013 in the concept turbo SOHC twin 588cc Recursion. That motor grew to a 700 twin by 2015, and apparently pops up in patents at intervals. The SV isn't Euro5 compliant so it's end of life this December.

The SV was a great bike, but it's 20 odd years old and I suppose you have to move with the times. Although whereas both generations of SV were pretty wee things, that new one looks like a rat bike with shiny paint.

Always loved the SV. I had a deposit down on one back in 2003 or so.....a lovely blue SV650S and was fairly active on the SV forum. I passed my tests on one and my mate bought a really nice one when he passed his test too. It's a sad to see the V-twin leaving the market.

The current SV is £6,999, but the Ducati badge is worth £4k easy.
