Aprilia V4 Tuono.

Post by Skub »

While I was waiting for a new tyre to be fitted today,I was eyeballing an Aprilia V4 Tuono. Man that thing looked pretty special. Tiny as a 600 with all the suspension toys etc.

I bet it would be monster fun. Downside for me is there are no Aprilia dealers in N.Ireland and I hear Phillip McCallen gave them up because servicing and spares availability were a nightmare.

I'd want proper backup for something like that,as you can bet it won't be Jap bike reliable.

Drop dead gorgeous,though.

Fast, small, light, noisy, pick all of that.

I didn't get on with the one I rode, possibly because it was just so damn fast!

A mate of mine had one, stupidly fast, horribly uncomfortable for any length of time. It ate its gearbox.

He swapped it for a 1290 Superduke

Abel had one of the original Tuono's and had a minor tip off but had to wait quite a few months for spare parts which meant once they arrived and the bike was sellable it was gone.

Lovely bikes and was fun too ride although the front end was soft as standard .....the V4's look lush ;)

If I had the spare cash, the RSV4 Tuono would be top of my list. Looks gorgeous, sounds incredible and all the reports say it's the best real world super-naked out there. I wouldn't be fussed about spares backup 'cos I know a guy named Griff.

Not sure that's correct.... And it's certainly not for me...
I think the S1000R, the Ducati Streetfighter and of course the 1290SDR may put up an argument.

Then there's the GSXS.. oh yeah... move on ;)

I feel duty bound to bite :angry-argument:

I'll admit that it's not at (or anywhere near ) the top of that tree but they can be had for under half the price and I bet they aren't half the bike.

Although the thought of the frothing from the forum if I fitted a top box to a Streetfighter is tempting

Griff from AP workshops. Seems to be the fella when it comes to Aprillia. Whether he can get spares when others can't I've no idea but he seems to know his onions about them. Seems like a nice bloke from his Youtube channel.

I know two dealers that used to sell Aprillias, neither of them have good things to say about Aprillia
I know someone who is a current Piaggio dealer, including Aprillias, he says all Piaggio brands have poor spares availability.

Back in the days of Visordown when God worked for an Aprilia dealer, he ordered me some parts for an Aprilia Scooter. He left and said they were still on back order. I'm still waiting for them... :wtf:

So...the general consensus is,it's a great bike as long as you don't need spares or servicing?

Oh well.

Aprilia justifiably got a bad reputation in the early 2000s when they were in the throes of bankruptcy and eventually got subsumed into the Piaggio conglomerate. For a period of 2-3 years spares availability was all over the shop, but now things are pretty much back to normal and at least on a par with other Italian marques. The only time you might struggle is August/early September, as Italy closes up shop and goes to the beach. Much like France, in fact.

Wes McCrum does them, I think he's sort of an "unofficial" dealer. Yer man in Clifton St did them but I don't know anyone who has a good word about him. John Bourne did them originally but he's retired.

I've never actually heard of him or the shop. Must do some investigations!
