How much is too much tat?

Post by Bigyin »

We have all seen them, the bikes with the entire bolt on catalogue of tat you can get for it or fitting into a "style" or " genre"

Many of us will remember Bellwood and even his style of bolt on tat is now referred to in posts

I got a few comments the last time i posted these pics of a local bloke to me along the lines of "Its his bike, why judge what he has on it". Its a Versys 300 and had more add ons i had ever seen on a bike of that size

well............. he has now passed his full license and has upgraded from the 300 to a 1200GSA ,,,the tat has taken a full step ...too much ?

I did speak to him and said i had a mate and his wife who did a round the world trip on a single bike and they had less kit on the bike then him for local riding ....he seemed quite proud of it.......... wasnt till he was riding off i noticed the samurai swords sticking out. It also has eight lights fitted to the front as well as the standard headlight as well as multiple electronic devices on the bars and dash

He only rides locally and the foreign stickers on the top box are from the previous owner

So, too much or can anyone beat it

It's not the too much bit that stands out, it's the type of stuff. Samurai swords and what look to be ammo clips. really?

My mind connects it with those overly ornately decorated Indian trucks, Thai Tuks Tuks and the like. Bower birds come to mind too. A strange mix of trying to attract a mate and appease the gods at the same time.

Have you considered suggesting he buys and a towbar and trailer?

Can you imagine the mess if he bins it?

What's the rider like? I'd guess he's someone you might feel a bit sorry for IRL. About 50, never married and just about manages to live independently?

What's his riding like? Once he finds the bike under all the stuff, that is ;)

It's just another sub branch of the rat bike scene, the Adventure Rat.

His bike, I don't care what he does with it, but I bet trafpol would have something to say if they see those swords.

Presumably owned by a harmless nutter, someone not mad enough to be a danger to themselves/others, but probably a bit too mad to be out on their own anyway?

I doubt you're even allowed to use the phrase "harmless nutter" these days anyway.

Early 20’s and a bit strange obviously ;)

His riding from what I have seen was ok but that was on the run up to test ….. he left the other day and heard him flat out on the road away from our place through first 3 gears …… it’s a 30 limit

Say it to their face and you might get a answer to Potter's question.

Ha!

How did we get from a bloke who has...'different' tastes in bike decoration and even worse, doesn't use it to travel the world...to someone who nollers weans?

People are different and I kind of admire those who pursue what they want rather than trying to meekly fit in.

I personally don't like what he's done, but then I detest ADV bikes,so anything less than a can of petrol and a match won't be an improvement to my eyes.

Leave him alone you big bullies. :P

Have you a link or more hints to that study please. Every so often I meet someone, usually male, that make the hairs on my neck stand up, I don't know why but I don't ignore it.

He'd be hard to collect with those swords within his reach.

Potter wrote: Tue Aug 30, 2022 11:45 am There is a study that shows human beings have the capability to weigh other human beings up very quickly, like within seconds, and 99.9% of the time they're right. It's a survival instinct developed over hundreds of thousands (maybe millions) of years.

That fella isn't right.
The Spartans would have left him on a hillside for the wolves to collect
There's a line there though. Humans aren't universally, nor unfailingly able to detect nutters. Most are way better at noticing someone who is different and right from school age. Hence bullying.

Those with intent to do harm often make sure they fit in and remain undetected. It's what a psychopath is good at,pretending to be human.

The Spartans maybe erred on the side of caution and perhaps a brave few babies went out with the bath water.

It might have been the weapons that swung it.

I'm a bit surprised he hasn't had a tug for that, but if it's anything like here, there's not many police on the ground anyway.

I'd be having a chat with him about the weapons, they are almost as likely to get him shot as tugged.
