Fast phone charging cables ?
Bit confused as i thought it was the charger and phone combo, not the actual cable that made things quicker.
Bought one of these for the van. To use for the Android Auto stuff.
Weirdly after 20s it bombs out and needs removing and re-connecting.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/362939848386 ... 2063724971
Using it at home in a standalone charger it does the job, but about half the speed of my good one. (which is getting a bit knackered at the end).
So, what cable do i actually need for decent speed and connection. USB C type.

Re: Fast phone charging cables ?
I've had cheap Chinese USB cables that couldn't keep up using Satnav, the power source was 1amp, but the cable wasn't supplying it.
I reckon any proper branded cable will do the job. Halfords will charge you a fortune for one, but you can sometimes get lucky and find good ones in Lidl/Aldi middle aisles, also near the checkouts in TKMaxx.
What power source are you using, the USB on the head unit or a ciggy lighter style USB adaptor, cos that's more likely to be the culprit.

It's a USB C into a dedicated feed into the head unit. But as i say, even on the standalone 3-pin plug it works rubbish. Phone was plugged in for 2 hours and gained 30%.... on my other cable it'd go from 0% to 100% in 40 mins.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Fri Aug 19, 2022 10:26 am What power source are you using, the USB on the head unit or a ciggy lighter style USB adaptor, cos that's more likely to be the culprit.

Re: Fast phone charging cables ?
I dunno if it's relevant but if Type C is the one with the little pins I only have one and it's no more than 1ft long (it came with the Garmin watch). One charger/plug combo for a Samsung tablet, if plugged into my phone...the phone says 'fast charging' and I assumed it was the charger/plug that was different rather than the cable.
It may just be that the connector is rubbish and the pins aren't locating properly but a 2 or 3m cable will be quite lossy if it's made out of cheap wire.

Just be careful buying cheap chargers and cables, i've had a few literally blow them selves out of the socket!
I always try and stick to own branded stuff for chargers and any good qaulity cable, the thicker the better!

We only allowed OEM stuff at our office in the days of office working...

IIRC Which, or Trading Standards, bought a load of cheap chargers - most were slightly or very dodgy.

Re: Fast phone charging cables ?
Didn't a few manufacturers get done for throttling the charging rate on non standard cables so they could sell theirs at huge markup?
Sure Apple was the main one (surprise surprise) and Samgsung as well?

I always recommend OEM but some Business Managers just won't listen and want the cheaper option!the_priest wrote: ↑Sun Aug 28, 2022 4:31 pm We only allowed OEM stuff at our office in the days of office working...

IMO Crapple have built in self destruct dates on all their products. Didn't the iphone 7 have this? didn't apple even admit to it being true? i cant be fucked to google it again!demographic wrote: ↑Sun Aug 28, 2022 6:47 pm Didn't a few manufacturers get done for throttling the charging rate on non standard cables so they could sell theirs at huge markup?

I have about 1100 ipad 4's still kicking about over about 7 campuses and a good 70%ish of them will not charge over 26% anymore, exactly 26%, all within about 6 months for all! coincidence? not IMO!
I also never forget back in 2012ish when Crapple released their VPP and DEP services to the UK. We had 2 year+ old ipads and we couldn't get them to work properly with the newly released VPP and DEP Services with our MDM (Cisco Meraki back then), we had about 270 of them in one big school. It turned out if we had ipads older than 2 years we would need to buy all new devices to use the new services, that was my first experience with Crapple!
Re: Fast phone charging cables ?
Don't think so. The only thing similar to this was Apple & Samsung slowing down older phones with depleted batteries to stop them shutting down automatically. In theory was supposed to be 'helpful' but the issue centred around them introducing the feature without telling people. They later changed it to a switchable option in the settings.demographic wrote: ↑Sun Aug 28, 2022 6:47 pm Didn't a few manufacturers get done for throttling the charging rate on non standard cables so they could sell theirs at huge markup?
