Triumph Tiger 800 mid term report

My Triumph Tiger went in for a service, an MOT and some new rubber this morning. I've done less than 4k miles on it in the last year but am starting to more regularly use it for commuting once or twice a week which is either a 100 mile or 140 mile round trip depending on which office. at the end of the month a bunch of us are off to the Pyrenees so MOT aside, I wanted it properly checked over by another set of eyes as well as fresh Oil etc.

Anyway, I took it to the lads at MotoCave in Swindon who know the bike, make a good cup of coffee and let me hot desk from their coffee lounge
It passed the MOT with no advisories, got freshened up with an oil service and is now wearing a new set of PR6s.

I still think of it as a newish bike, but its an 11 plate, I've had it for over 7 years and its now got 56,000 miles on it. I've been looking a 890 Adventures, Tiger 900GT pros etc. Lovely things but apart from a few toys, I'm struggling to justify upgrading when this thing rides the same as it did with 12k on the clock.
I think I'm going to keep it another 7 years, its become like my favourite armchair. I think I can resist a TFT screen and heated seat....

I've only done the 20 odd miles home on them but like on any new tyre, they roll so nicely compared to an old squared off set
For the price, they better be bloody good! I've had PR4s on this and my Monster and they were great

If I was to trade in my 2014 Street Triple,it would be for for a 800 Tiger,I've only heard good words about them,unlike the later versions..
The PR5's fitted to my Street Triple have been excellent so far

I'll aim for 100k miles and see how it goes after that. so far its only had new front wheel bearings. Headstock bearings are original.
I've heard of clutches going but plates are bound to wear out sooner or later.
Guy at the workshop this morning was saying a guy who had a modern Triumph twin (can't remember which one) got it to 140,000 before it needed a rebuild but everytrhing needed a rebuild. He bought another one and kept the old one for spares..

My 2013 Tiger had just over 60k on the clock and I'm in the same boat of intending to keep for quite some time, but if I have to go back to commuting daily I'll probably have a summer bike and a winter bike.
It's cosmetically challenged but mechanically sound

I have had ZX6R's with similar miles as i used them for daily commutes, fun rides and touring as i didnt have a car at the time ...... lasted well but changed for a slightly newer one i treated as equally bad mileage wise, followed by a GS and Multistrada that got the same treatment. Almost 200000 miles between them in all weathers all year round.

The latest bike is being positively cosseted in comparison at just 12000 miles in the last 4 years of ownership although the first 9 months of that i couldnt ride due to injury/surgery recovery

FWIW I was on a group ride last year and one of the riders was an 'off duty' IAM observer. He had recently bought a Tiger 900, and I asked him how he liked it. He didn't quite say as much, but I sensed he preferred his old Tiger 800.
