Project that came my way recently after a daft conversation.
It’s an 86 VFR750 race bike, already modified with 17” wheels and suspension work. Needs some work incl rearsets and a ride height adjustable shock.
I’ll start stripping it soon and then think about entering a race when it’s done

what would I know but I did have a pop at my brother's factory standard VFR800 a few years ago & whilst undeniably classy, it sure felt top heavy. I'd not sure I'd like to race that.

IanB has just bought one to run alongside his 900 Superlight.

I saw it recently and it's absolutely lovely condition for it's age, you wouldn't think it was anywhere near how old it is.

I had a 1990 VFR, which is a different beast, but was still a cracking nice bike. Enjoy it. Hopefully you will be able to have fun on it.

Hope this pans out, will be interested to see it- have you had the motor running?

Anyway, whether it does or doesn't, warrants another watch of this I reckon

Good luck with the Viffer, some one at Allens Performance has a race one and can tell you all about jetting.
Make sure the water hoses are in good condition, when they go they squirt boiling water at your left leg.

I work in a yard with a lot of classic race specialists and Allens and the race bike there are well known

I'm gonna have a go on it soon enough, but talking to people I respect as riders they all like these modified VFR's and reckon they are great fun especially on track !

Like most bikes, if you go into it with the right attitude, it will be brilliant. If you go in trying to make it a 1299s, then you'll be disappointed.

Looking through spares box I found some rearsets I can repurpose with mounting brackets but a better find was some brackets I had made for the old 91 cbr600 to let it run 310mm floating discs. These also fit this bike so I can upgrade the brakes relatively cheaply now,  Will also stick in one of the lithium batteries lying around In a time when money saving is important I knew keeping stuff in boxes from years ago would come in handy

Suspension is sorted, rear shock and linkage made for the bike and sits some 45mm higher. Forks have springs and oil and it sits on 17” wheels. Spring rates are correct for me but I’ll reserve judgement till I’ve rode it myself !

I remember that.
I don't recall what happened to Haslams original Bike , but apparently he or his team went to the local Honda Dealer and came out with a showroom model.
Lucky for him it was a wet/damp race.
