Superduke TT lap

In between racing this year Rutter took out a superduke 1290 Evo for a lap to see how good a super naked is at the TT. With suspension set for track and sticky tyres it did a 108mph lap…..to put that into perspective it’s on a par with the 1976 lap record and a fair bit slower than the 650 twins which are at 122mph.

So errrr super nakeds as good as sports bikes or something lol

I hate to agree, but it's hard to argue.

Part of the reason I own a naked 690 is to keep the speed down.

Mike Hailwood set the 108.77 mph outright lap record in 1967 on his 500cc Honda 4. With primitive twin shocks and RWU forks, less than 80 bhp, an evil handling motorcycle and skinny Dunlop triangular treaded tyres.

If I were KTM I wouldn't be shouting too loudly about this.

And in the intervening years since 1967 the course has been 'improved' out of all recognition - corners cut back and straightened and the surface improved year on year. Just that alone has been worth several mph in lap times.

That's average race speed. We're talking about a single lap, surely? Admittedly Rutter's was from a standing start whereas Mike's was a flying lap, but in the same race Ago posted a 108.38mph lap from a standing start.

I bought a naked specifically because I knew it would be much slower than a sportsbike. It's a different kind of fun.

Daft/ pointless comparisons IMO, you're ( well, racers) are flat out or so close to it so much around the TT course that the limiting factor is likely to be the rider's neck / shoulders on that day.
If we are talking current sportsbikes to nakeds , then something like Rutter's Donington league table that used to appear in PB when they got him to test road bikes would be of far more relevance.

I suppose it depends what you want. We know sports bikes are ultimately faster on track, but who wants to spend their life looking like a monkey fucking a football on roads that aren’t race tracks?
