Where do you buy your (road) tyres?

Post by Trinity765 »

I have always got my tyres from whoever is fitting them but I'd like to get a set in stock. Does anyone have a supplier they'd recommend?

I buy a new bike when they are looking worn. Last pair of bike tyres I bought to fit to a bike I owned was 7 or 8 years ago 😁

I always purchase from eBay purely because I get better deals then fire them on myself.

It’s worth a look.

If you have them in stock, how will you get them to the tyre fitter ? Often best to buy the whole package.

I’ve used M&P the last couple of times I’ve needed a pair of Avon roadriders or trailriders .Pricewise they were reasonable and delivered next day.

Wherever supplies them at a good price. Then a local fitter puts them on the loose wheels for a tenner. Saves a packet over workshop prices. Some of the quoted prices for tyres and fitting are just silly.

When I had a crook back a dealer quoted nearly £300 for a rear, including fitting. I'm fitting budget sport touring tyres and *I* can buy the tyre online for £95, so I'm damn sure the trade price is less than that. The rest is mark up.

It's about 7-8 mins to remove the rear wheel, and about the same to refit. Allow 10 to change the tyre and balance it and that's 30 mins. How they were justifying an hour's workshop time I have no idea.

No way, Jose. I just swallowed a prescription pain killer then did the job myself over an afternoon with a couple of breaks to lay flat on the floor, and hobbled around for a few days afterwards.

FWR Ltd in that London and they get sent out to me as i have a local fitter who does them for a fiver a wheel as long as I take the wheels in.

Bob at FWR is another mate from racing so tends to look after me when he can and if I end up paying a bit more sometimes I would rather the money went to a friend

I read somewhere recently where a Diavel had been off the road all Summer waiting for a rear tyre. Hen's teeth,I believe.

I think you can buy them - but they used to be 160 GBP ish - now there is a premium on them. Let's see what tomorrow brings - or else the ManxGP will be done on something else.

Slight derail but previously I mentioned Rubber Ranch mobile bike tyre service and his base location was discussed. He's now based in Frimley and works within a radius of there.

Map. http://www.rubber-ranch.co.uk/page_3152074.html

I assume he's a bit more flexible than the circle suggests. :D
