Been a couple of times. Stayed both north in Tihany and south in Siofok. lovely area to be, lots of Austrians and Germans in the area during high season. Good food and pretty decent prices for drink as well. Have the palinka if you are not riding anyhwere... go on, have another one! Vienna is an easy enough ride from there, we did a stopover there on our drive to Balaton. Enjoy it, remember they drive like maniacs!

I've went to Budapest for New Year once, I'm never drinking Palinka again!

I couldn't decide which was worse, Palinka or Unicum... actually, thinking about it... Unicum.

Apt timing.

In the bike shop yesterday her in doors mentioned the Hungary trip. Over winter I need to pick up a suitable bike. She thinks I'm going to sell the Guzzi to buy a tourer. She should sell her 7000GS, it's done 600 miles in four years!

I’ve had Palinka, NEVER again. The drunken pursuit of a KOM on the way home involved a trip through a bramble bush at 30mph.

Stayed overnight in Siofok a couple of years ago. Didnt think much of the town itself-just a dual carriageway through it with spurs heading off to the side of the lake.

The lake was ok as lakes go, but it seemed to be busy with groups of people all the way round. There is a ferry that goes over it to save you riding all the way round. Cheap and worth doing just to say you've done it.

Four years later and I still haven't made it to Balaton.

However, in 2025 the Hungarian round of the MotoGP is at Balaton Park Circuit, which believe it or not is on the shore of Lake Balaton.

Maybe 2025 is my year :)

Anyone else fancy it?
