The Thules are awesome yes...

I'm more of a towbar mount guy myself though. But in the days gone by i've had similar Thules. However i did prefer the front wheel out type that hold it in by front fork mounts rather than the wheel in type.

I've just bought these bars and fit my Altera Giro bike racks to them. Both from Roofrack UK. Good piece of kit

Another tow bar fan here, we use a Atera rack and its very good. I've done the roof rack thing and when your borked at the end of a wet, cold long ride its very easy to nearly drop your bike wit its sticky out pointy bits on your car roof, not that I've nearly done that.....

Personally I just chuck mine in the car, Mondeo hatchback - almost a small van capacity :)

Anyhoo, based on my experiences of travelling with bikes on racks:

Roof mounted - pain in the arse to load / unload, risky with low bridges, branches, car park barriers, NOISY, VERY NOISY.

Tow bar - easy to load, no difference to car noise, minimal effort. < Winner

Another towbar user here, one similar to this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TOWBAR-TOW-B ... 0548634374 it folds up and goes in the back of the car when not in use, I've had 2 bikes on it with no problems, carries my eMTB with no problems.
