To be honest there’s not a lot to do to it as far as I can see.
I want to try out what a 600 is like on track mainly because I want to see if it helps me progress faster. My 1000 is great sometimes and feels completely overwhelming other times so this is where the experiment begins.

As standard it’s got a slipper clutch but rear sets and a trans logic quick shifter have been added. It has an Akra Exhaust and a power commander fitted. It’s a 2006 636 by the way. Comes with R11s.

Getting a bit common now.

Quick question, I was told that the discs are fully floating and they have play in them. Looking online I can see that this is a thing but given the safety aspect of this have I been sold a line or do these look fine…

They're shagged

Got bigger issues any way. Oil leak from the back. Spoke to the seller and it’s going back. Never mind. Plan b.

Yep. Kicking myself for being so naive. It’s going back tomorrow and picking up the other near identical bike that I saw this morning.

It’s gone back and got my money back which is a relief.

So this is now the new project green track bike…
It’s very similar, same year and mostly the same kit on it but all the oil is on the inside and the discs aren’t borked.

I'll be interested to see how you get on with it- my view on difference between 600s & 1000s as track bikes FWIW is it's simply ease of use- 1000s typically allow you to be a lot lazier for any given laptime, ie less gearchanges, use a higher gear etc and pull back time easier on straights- 600s can be massive fun and very rewarding IMO, but you really need to keep them spinning at 10k+ to really enjoy them whereas on your average 1000 has more mid-range and can be easier to ride, albeit definitely not easier to use all the power, if that makes sense.

Anyway, I'm sure you know all that- happy new bike day, and look forward to catching up properly at Pembrey, if not another TD before then

Cheers all. I’m not selling the Honda. I’ll see how I go on the Kawasaki for the rest of the year and if I stop using the Honda then I’ll put it back to road trim, tidy it up a bit and probably hang on to it. I’d regret selling it just like I regretted selling the 929 I used to have.

Changed the oil and it wasn’t that clean but no nasties in it. Also changed the brake fluid which was kind of ok but flushed it all out anyway to be on the safe side.

Secured the race rear bodywork that was day on some off cuts of pipe lagging. I knew this would need doing when I bought it and the lagging was a temporary measure apparently. Anyway, made a bracket curved to support the fibreglass seat and secured the seat to it. Very happy with that.

Fitted the baffle and it changed the tone a lot and sounds quieter… we shall see I guess.

Ran it up to see if the cooling system is working and it’s all good although it takes longer than I expected to reach 100. Maybe the thermostat is stuck open a bit or maybe it’s just how they are. I’ll order a new one and deal that over sometime soon.

Connected up to the healtech quick shifter and that seems to be working. I’ll configure it when I get the gear toe peg that’s missing… vibrated off apparently on the way home from Almera.

Ordered some new toe pegs and some TWM levers. I have the same levers on the Honda and really like them. Will fit these and then should be good to go for a week tomorrow at Bedford.

It's possible, I'll take a look, thanks. I don't think it's a racebike as nothing is drilled for lock wire.
