Mountain Bike Helmets

My mate wants us to ride the Viking Trail at Tunstall, which I'm fine with, but it does mean I should get a helmet as some of it is quick and slippery and lined with pine trees, what should I look for in a MTB helmet, don't think I'll be going fast enough to need a full face, and I'd look a bit of a twat in one as when I rode it a few years ago everyone was wearing open face lids. I have got a Bell helmet somewhere that I used before, but I seem to have put it somewhere safe.

just like motorbike helmets there are helmets and there are Helmets.
personally I would be looking for MIPS (

I've been wearing a Giro Montanna for a couple of years now and find it all day comfy but it is a bit more spendy than the one you've linked to.
If you want really decent budget then there's the planet x -
https://www.planetx.co.uk/c/q/helmets/mtb-helmets they are decent enough quality for the money, my boy has had a couple of them, crashed them and written them off (i.e. I've binned them because his head hit the trail).
ultimately , there's millions of choices, pick your budget first and see what fits in that budget

I have a Giro Fixture MIPS. I'd definately recommend a MIPS helmet.
I'd also recommend trying a load on. I got mine from Tredz and even though I wanted the more expensive Giro helmet, I was amazed at how different they all were even though they were made by the same manufacturer.
So in the end I went for the one that fit my head and was most comfortable. Very much like buying a motorcycle helmet.

Interesting read, putting the lie to '$10 head'.

Not sure that the inflatable 'helmet' would work quick enough to work against imminent branch:face interaction.

Get one that fits and is comfortable. I used to get Giro's but my LBS stopped doing them as the importer had a ridiculous by in. I now use KASK which are very comfortable and fit my head. I've tried a few MIPS lids (SCOTT) but they were never particularly comfortable but that was a couple of years ago so things might have improved.
