Re: Ride London has a 22mph restriction
That’s a crock of shit
Plenty of riders in the later waves will be doing 25+ in bunches. Which means absolute carnage behind the pace car
If enough riders swarm past it I can’t see what they’re gonna do mind you

Re: Ride London has a 22mph restriction
Is the event meant to be a race or just a ride ? If it’s not a race what’s the issue ?

Re: Ride London has a 22mph restriction
Depends on your interpretation. It's an event on road bikes on a closed road with a start and a finish.

Re: Ride London has a 22mph restriction
It’s not a race no but there is prestige to being in the sub-4h lead group. Loads of guys in Newbury used to do it just for the chance of a 4h century.
Our pretty average Chaingang with 8 people does 24mph.

What a load of wankers. They are having roads closed for them which will inconvenience many thousands and then they whine that they can't do WTF they like
I'd just cancel the fucker and sod the ungrateful wankers

Re: Ride London has a 22mph restriction
Nobody is inconvenienced on a track day. At a guess, how many millions will be inconvenienced by this ride ?

Re: Ride London has a 22mph restriction
I'm not sure what that has to do with it ?
And yes, many people are inconvenienced by the noise. It's a different inconvenience, but still exists.
Done forget that despite a minor inconvenience, every person who registers to ride, pledges to raise £600 for charity.
Trackdays don't raise a lot Cycling doesn't pollute either..RideLondon has raised more than £80 million for charities since 2013

Re: Ride London has a 22mph restriction
So just supposing some riders just take off and pass the pace car.
What is the punishment? Those naughty riders not being allowed to do the event (with pace car doing 22mph) next year?
Oh Noez, that would be a disaster...

Re: Ride London has a 22mph restriction
It's possible the roads are not fully closed until closer to the time, so potentially they'd be hitting cars and traffic on non-closed roads ?demographic wrote: ↑Tue May 17, 2022 6:36 am So just supposing some riders just take off and pass the pace car.

Kinda sounds like those that break the rules will find their own punishmentweeksy wrote: ↑Tue May 17, 2022 6:41 amIt's possible the roads are not fully closed until closer to the time, so potentially they'd be hitting cars and traffic on non-closed roads ?demographic wrote: ↑Tue May 17, 2022 6:36 am So just supposing some riders just take off and pass the pace car.

The rules only became the rules this week, less than 2 weeks before the event....

Re: Ride London has a 22mph restriction
Not true.
(Bikes, tyres etc etc aren't made out of thin air, old tyres, brake pads etc don't just evaporate and queues of cars behind cyclists create more pollution than cars moving freely. Lots of riders drive many miles to/from the event, just as they drive to/from the Surrey Hills from all over the place).

i'm not a car owner and its for only for a day -its quite disruptive though for some peopleweeksy wrote: ↑Tue May 17, 2022 6:21 amI'm not sure what that has to do with it ?

Re: Ride London has a 22mph restriction
Granted i'm sure it is... but it's not like it's a shock.... Bank Holidays seem an inconvenience to many with closing of the shops and people need to stack up on 3 months worth of shopping for the weekend. Train/Rail closures are also inconvenient. But not only is this 1 part of 1 day, it's a lot of people raising a lot of money to help others out...asmethurst99 wrote: ↑Tue May 17, 2022 8:21 ami'm not a car owner and its for only for a day -its quite disruptive though for some peopleweeksy wrote: ↑Tue May 17, 2022 6:21 amI'm not sure what that has to do with it ?

Now I know more about it, maybe I was a bit harsh.
But cyclists are still moaning gits Should hear the abuse they shout during the Ironman events I've done
