New(old) trail bike

I got this 1998 KL250 last week. Basically it's an Aussie farm bike, so less extreme than modern trail bikes & with a low seat height to suit a shorty like me.
Tonight I shall be mostly falling off it on Salisbury Plain.

Good little bikes, change the oil every 1000 miles and it will last well, but if the oil isn't changed they can have cam wear problems.
Good luck with those tyres, they look like they'll be useless in mud.

Thats lovely, it "looks" a lot lighter than the (non X ) CRFs, but even if it isn't, it is bound to be livelier as of course , as

I had a sit on it at the weekend, perfect size and ergonomics and looks great.
Ineed to get some Ducatis sorted out before I can contemplate a trail bike but its in the plan!

Drill the baffle out the exhaust, get the hole cutter on the airbox and a K&N, then stick some bigger jets in it!
My arse dyno reckons it added at least 50% more power to my DR250.
Little four bangers and cool, but my DR was a fucker to start when it was hot, apparently KLX's were too, no idea about the Sherpa, has it got a leccy boot?

A Mikuni TM33 carb is apparently the preferred performance upgrade but to be honest I don't really want any more performance or noise. Its a pleasant little little chugger for enjoying green lanes without hacking off other users like the many horse riders we have over here.

Mikuni TMs cost a fortune, Keihin FCRs are cheaper, and they're expensive.

I like those Sherpa 250’s. Great laning and trail bike similar to a serow. I had an xl250degree for ages which is almost identical and that was a superb little bike.
