Should my laminated trousers get wet inside
So I’ve been using my Richa Colorado 2 Pro Textile Trousers - Black everyday day for my 16 mile commute, they have been fine up until today, today was wet, and when I got to work the left inside leg (where it’s on the tank) was wet, the thermal lining was all wet, are they meant to be 100% waterproof??? Or what??

That looks like a serious fail.

Re: Should my laminated trousers get wet inside
Yeah I'd be filing a complaint about that and asking for an exchange. If it says waterproof then they should be, in practice I reckon everything eventually leaks but shouldn't really be in the length of time it takes to do 16 miles with a newish pair so I'd be raising it now.

Spoke to the visorshop (who I got them from)
They need to send them back to Richa in Belgium, 4/6 weeks, they recon, to me that’s a absolute piss take.
I asked about a replacement pair and they said they need to have them sent back and examined first.

That lad put in loads of graft, I gave him the recipes and some training. But he is special. Also got mugged big time as they basically said 3 course would be too much.Count Steer wrote: ↑Mon Apr 04, 2022 9:05 am That looks like a serious fail.

How long have you had them?formula400 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 04, 2022 10:32 am Spoke to the visorshop (who I got them from)

If they're sold as 'water-resistant over-trousers', or even 'water-proof' (different meanings), then they shouldn't be leaking after 16 miles of travel - even in a torrential downpour.
It's pretty obvious that the taped seams on the outer-layer have either been poorly applied, or have separated - neither of which are good.
I can 'kinda' see the issue from the shop's point of view - thanks to the minority of bike-kit buyers who are chancers and send kit back on whim, or claim manufacturer failure when the buyer has actually done the damage (eg torn it on a nail) they have to make sure you aren't one of the chancers, hence the requirement to send it in (a problem with buying stuff online) instead of being able to trust you implicitly.formula400 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 04, 2022 10:32 am Spoke to the visorshop (who I got them from)

Sending the product back to Belgium for repair is a matter for them to deal with though - your contract for a pair of water-proof trousers is with the shop - the shop should be replacing your product with a like-for-like replacement as soon as they can be assured that the product has failed (as opposed to the product being damaged). (at least I think that's right).
Personally - I probably wouldn't be buying something like that online: I'd want to try it on in a shop to see if it fitted properly (eg, not being tight and stretching the seams across the crotch!), and then asking for the same product from the box in storage - to make sure I didn't get the size 36 that has been tried on by 3 size-42 gents who were trying to kid themselves and thus had the seams stretched.

Bike waterproof gear is an ongoing joke. It's time we did a lot more bitching about stuff not fit for purpose.

Yeah. I guessed there'd been some jiggery poker behind the scenes over the 3 courses. Nice that the lad from Aber got the starter though.formula400 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 04, 2022 10:33 amThat lad put in loads of graft, I gave him the recipes and some training. But he is special. PS When you spoke to the trousers people did you mention 'not fit for purpose'. They, as suppliers, shouldn't just be trying to hand it off on the manufacturer. I can understand they want to look at them to confirm the failure but then it should just be a straight refund.

I have found Gore Tex to be the only reliable waterproof clothing. Everything with the label has to go to them for thorough testing before being authenticated by them, hence it's more expensive but worth it.

Now are you sure that the 'water' originated from outside the trousers ?

Re: Should my laminated trousers get wet inside
I always found Hein Gericke's 'Sheltex' product a little better than the contemporaneous Gore-tex products - but anything that is a 'lined' rather than laminated product will prevent the '-tex' liner working properly when the outer layer is fully soaked.Trinity765 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 04, 2022 2:05 pm I have found Gore Tex to be the only reliable waterproof clothing. Complain to the seller that they’re leaking outwards!Ditchfinder wrote: ↑Mon Apr 04, 2022 3:13 pm Now are you sure that the 'water' originated from outside the trousers ?

Re: Should my laminated trousers get wet inside
I am going to post them with a little note saying not fit for purposes.
They have no damage on the inside or outside and have done approx 150miles in the pissing rain before and I felt damp once before and this issue was quite bad.
Once posted I’ll phone them again and be a little more firm. I don’t even want a refund, I like the trousers. They have been great up u till now (also then I’d need to find another pair from another brand)
Also in regards to going to a shop to try in, there are not many decent shops close to me, I have J&S new Malden close, P&H Crawley is over an hour away. I’ve not had a spare 3 hours for ages and then there is no guarantee they would have suitable ones.

Re: Should my laminated trousers get wet inside
They got the trousers back on Friday, but the refused to replace/refund until Richa gives the go ahead, said Richa want to see/test them before they will issue replacements,
TBH I can't be arsed to fight them, I think its pretty poor service, and also can't see my self using them again. sport bike shop are a hell of a lot easier to deal with (and offer free returns)

Re: Should my laminated trousers get wet inside
That's Visorshop off my list then. Like you I have virtually nothing locally, so lots of stuff gets bought online. I really hate shops that pass all the problems on to the manufacturer, especially with a long delay.formula400 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 12, 2022 7:47 pm They got the trousers back on Friday, but the refused to replace/refund until Richa gives the go ahead, said Richa want to see/test them before they will issue replacements,

Re: Should my laminated trousers get wet inside
Makes you wonder, other than pishing yourself, what they think has caused the water/damp inside other than them leaking??
Hope you get it sorted and ultimately get a refund. It'd put me off asking for a replacement and also make me avoid Richa and Visorshop again in the future.

The Visorshop are Crossan Motorcycles,I think? Anyway, they never had a good name and even thought they are fairly local to me,I don't use them.Cousin Jack wrote: ↑Wed Apr 13, 2022 9:23 pmThat's Visorshop off my list then.
